Those are Roblox-wide figures—not measurements of Gen Z alone. A separate Roblox/Ipsos survey offers a closer look at how U.S. Gen Z Roblox users describe their avatars and digital style.
How much time and activity does Roblox report?
Roblox says users spent 88.7 billion hours engaged on the platform from January 1 through September 30, 2025. It also reported more than 151 million daily users and an average of 2.8 hours a day per user in the third quarter, which ended September 30. Roblox describes that time as playing games and sharing experiences.
These are platform-wide figures. They do not isolate Gen Z, and the daily searches and avatar updates below are activity totals, not counts of distinct people. Roblox also reported that, on one Saturday morning in August, 45 million users were playing together across the platform—a striking single moment, not a typical daily count.
- More than 50 million searches a day: Roblox’s reported daily search volume.
- 274 million avatar updates a day: a measure of avatar activity, not unique users.
- 18.8 million average daily Marketplace visitors: Roblox’s figure for the first half of 2025, up 17% year over year.

Which games and trends drew searches in 2025?
Roblox’s top three overall experience searches were Brookhaven, Grow a Garden, and Steal a Brainrot, in that order. The platform’s search analysis covered January 1 through November 9, 2025, and used a 1% random sample for its top-search results. Roblox notes that broad terms such as “horror” and “roleplay” could be more popular than individual experience names in some cases.
The Replay also highlights interest in sports and horror games, plus searches tied to Y2K, Hello Kitty, “67” or “six seven,” KPop Demon Hunters, and Squid Game. These trends show how game discovery can intersect with memes, entertainment, and style—not only with specific titles.

Individual experiences also reached enormous concurrent audiences. Roblox reported 21.6 million concurrent users for Grow a Garden in July 2025, which it said broke a Guinness World Records achievement for most concurrently played video game. Steal a Brainrot drew more than 25 million concurrent users in September 2025, according to Roblox. These are reported peak concurrency figures, not average audiences.
How did searches differ by device?
Roblox describes different search patterns across devices. Mobile searches leaned toward horror, escape, and obby experiences; tablet searches toward creative experiences such as Build a Plane and Dress to Impress; console searches toward action-oriented and licensed titles; VR searches toward VR-related experiences; and PC searches toward complex, mechanics-driven RPGs and fighting games.

These are patterns Roblox observed in its platform searches, not evidence that a device causes a particular preference. Search results also reflect what people are looking for at a given moment, rather than a complete account of what they play.
What does the survey say about Gen Z and avatar style?
Roblox and Ipsos surveyed 1,600 U.S. Gen Z respondents ages 13–28 in online quantitative surveys in May and August 2025. Every respondent had used Roblox in the previous 30 days. Participants came from Ipsos online panels, with quotas used to achieve a 50/50 male/female split. The results therefore describe the reported attitudes of this defined group of recent Roblox users—not all Gen Z, all Roblox users, or young people worldwide.

Among surveyed Roblox users, 47% said they changed their avatar to express creativity. Thirty-eight percent said they did so to try a new identity, another 38% to stand out, and 37% to match their mood. The responses suggest that avatars can serve several purposes at once, from experimentation to signaling how someone feels.
The survey also points to a perceived connection between digital and physical style: 84% said their physical style was influenced by their digital self, while 87% said experimenting with avatar style online first made them more comfortable expressing themselves offline. These are self-reported answers; they do not show that avatar experimentation caused a change in real-life behavior.

Digital fashion also had a shopping-related role for respondents: 70% said they had worn branded digital fashion, and 88% said they used digital fashion as a preview tool before buying physical clothing. Those percentages refer to the surveyed U.S. Gen Z Roblox users, not the wider population.

The report describes a mix of returning to familiar experiences, searching for broad genres, and joining shared moments. During Grow a Garden’s chart-topping period, Roblox says searches for “team green bean” were common. It also describes “admin abuse” events in Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot, where creators competed for users with free upgrades, shop restocks, and celebrity appearances.
Those examples help explain the scale of participation without reducing it to hours played. A platform search can reflect a trend or a group event; an avatar update can reflect personal expression; and a concurrency peak captures people arriving at the same time. Each is a different indicator, and none by itself proves that Gen Z as a whole is “obsessed.”
