Why is their son named Riot?
Rihanna discussed Riot’s name in a February 2025 Harper’s Bazaar interview. She said Pharrell Williams gave them the name while thinking the baby would be a girl: “He gave us this name thinking it was going to be a girl, because he had seen something online.”
The magazine’s account connects Williams’s suggestion to his work with A$AP Rocky on Rocky’s 2023 song “Riot.” It also describes Williams as thoughtful about a name’s history, energy, and timing. The interview provides a direct account of how his suggestion entered the conversation, but it does not establish that the song itself was the parents’ reason for choosing the name.

What does Rose mean in Riot Rose?
A September 2023 CBS News report relayed an explanation from an unnamed Entertainment Tonight source: A$AP Rocky loves flowers and keeps fresh ones at home, while roses are Rihanna’s favorite flowers. That offers a reported explanation for “Rose,” not a reason either parent has publicly confirmed in the cited coverage.
What do we know about RZA’s name?
In the 2025 Harper’s Bazaar interview, Rihanna described her son’s personality, saying, “RZA is just an empath,” and calling him “so magical.” Those remarks are about how she sees him; they do not explain why she and Rocky chose his name.

The interview does not establish the name’s origin. It is therefore more accurate to leave the parents’ rationale open than to treat an association or a name-dictionary meaning as their intention.
What do Rocki and Irish mean?
The Associated Press reported on September 24, 2025, that Rihanna announced the birth of her daughter, Rocki Irish Mayers. The announcement gave September 13, 2025, as her birth date. The AP report confirms the name and birth announcement, but the sources reviewed do not explain what inspired “Rocki” or “Irish.”

A January 2026 Esquire story spells RZA’s middle name “Athelaston,” but reporting varies on that spelling. Since the available direct account does not settle it, this article uses the name RZA without adding a middle name. Esquire’s family profile contains the variant.
