For a YouTube fireplace stream, start with 1080p (1920×1080) at 30 fps if your upload connection can deliver it reliably. YouTube recommends a 14 Mbps H.264 input bitrate for 1080p30. If that strains your connection, use 720p (1280×720) at 30 fps; YouTube recommends 8 Mbps H.264 for that format. Stability matters more than the largest resolution, especially for a stream meant to stay live around the clock.
Choose a resolution and bitrate that your connection can sustain
The figures below are YouTube’s live-ingest recommendations, accessed October 3, 2026. They are not platform-independent rules or special requirements for fireplace video. The bitrate depends on both codec and frame rate; the table shows 30 fps recommendations, so do not apply these figures to 60 fps.
| Input format | H.264 recommended bitrate | AV1 or H.265 recommended bitrate | When it may make sense |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 (1280×720) | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps | When available upload capacity or reliability is the constraint. |
| 1080p30 (1920×1080) | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps | A practical starting point when the connection is stable. |
| 1440p30 (2560×1440) | 21 Mbps | 15 Mbps | When the source contains useful extra detail and the connection can support it. |
| 2160p30 (3840×2160, 4K) | 42 Mbps | 30 Mbps | Usually unnecessary for a simple, locked-off scene unless high-detail source quality is a goal and delivery capacity is ample. |
These are the recommendations on YouTube’s live encoder settings page. YouTube says it automatically transcodes a live input into multiple output formats for viewers, so you do not need to send a separate stream for every playback resolution. A higher-resolution source can preserve more detail for YouTube to work with, but it is useful only when the source, encoder, and connection justify the extra bitrate.
Check upload capacity before going live
Measure the outgoing connection
Check upload speed, not download speed. YouTube advises that the total bitrate of your stream fit within your outbound bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% spare capacity. Its streaming tips also warn that other network use and interruptions can constrain or break a stream. Count any backup stream and competing traffic on the same connection when judging whether a resolution is practical.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use the source’s frame rate where practical
If your fireplace footage or loop is 30 fps, there is generally no reason to select 60 fps simply because the platform supports it. YouTube lists separate bitrate recommendations by frame rate, and a higher frame rate can demand more capacity without adding meaningful motion detail to a static scene. These bitrate figures are specific to 30 fps.
Set up the YouTube encoder for a steady stream
- Choose the output resolution and frame rate. Start at 1080p30 if the upload connection can sustain the corresponding YouTube bitrate with headroom; step down to 720p30 if it cannot.
- Match the bitrate to the codec. For example, use YouTube’s H.264 recommendation if encoding in H.264; do not use an AV1/H.265 figure for an H.264 encoder.
- Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, no longer than four seconds. Use RTMPS for the stream connection, as recommended in YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Test with representative content. Include audio and movement similar to the planned stream, and monitor stream health while it runs. For a 24/7 operation, test uptime and recovery over a representative period before relying on it; that is a practical application of YouTube’s general test-and-monitor guidance, not a separate YouTube resolution rule.
Account for the fireplace stream’s viewing experience
A fireplace stream is usually ambient rather than interactive, so low latency is rarely the deciding factor. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering and matters less when a streamer is not interacting with viewers. If DVR is enabled, viewers can pause and rewind the stream. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance for settings and trade-offs.

Keep a 24/7 stream running without a home computer
If you want to play uploaded fireplace footage as a continuous YouTube live stream without leaving a computer or home connection on, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting a live camera.
