A 2013 report said Michael Jordan and Yvette Prieto had a prenuptial agreement with a payment formula tied to the length of their marriage. The agreement itself was not published, however, and the reported terms have not been independently confirmed in the sources cited here. The reporting does not establish that Jordan made Prieto sign it.
What the 2013 report said the prenup would provide
On March 31, 2013, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the alleged agreement would provide Prieto $1 million for each year of marriage, rising to $5 million per year after the couple’s tenth anniversary. The report relied on an anonymous account and did not publish the agreement, so the figures should be understood as reported terms—not verified contract language. La Gazzetta dello Sport’s March 31, 2013 report.
The exact wording matters: this is a media account of an alleged formula, not a confirmed payment Jordan made or a publicly established clause. A 2020 retrospective by El Universo repeated the figures but did not supply independent documentary confirmation. El Universo’s May 22, 2020 report.
What is known about the marriages and the earlier settlement
The Washington Post reported that Jordan and Prieto married on April 27, 2013. Its coverage also put the settlement from Jordan’s 2006 divorce from Juanita Vanoy at approximately $168 million. That amount is a newspaper-reported estimate; the cited articles do not reproduce the settlement record. What the available reporting does not establish
- It does not verify the alleged payment formula through a copy of the agreement, a court record, or an on-record statement from Jordan, Prieto, or their lawyers.
- It does not show that Prieto was pressured or compelled to sign.
- It does not establish the circumstances of negotiation, the agreement’s enforceability, or the couple’s current legal arrangements.
Accordingly, describing the prenup as “intense” or saying Jordan “made” Prieto sign goes beyond what these reports demonstrate. The strongest supported account is narrower: a 2013 newspaper report described alleged terms, while the underlying private agreement has not been confirmed by the cited evidence.
