Tatiana Maslany and Tom Cullen were publicly described as a couple from 2016 through 2017, and they worked together on the film The Other Half. But the available interviews do not establish when or why their relationship ended—or confirm their current status. The reliable account is limited to what they said and what was reported while they were together.
What is confirmed about their relationship?
In 2016, Entertainment Tonight reported that Maslany and Cullen had been together since 2011 and had met while working on the miniseries World Without End. That is the outlet’s account of their timeline, rather than a direct quotation in which either actor gives the precise start date.

In interviews that year, the actors spoke about having started dating around the time Maslany joined The Other Half project and recalled living in Budapest for about six months while filming a television series. In March 2016, the Evening Standard described their relationship as four and a half years long. A Nylon interview published in March 2017 still characterized them as a real-life couple.
These accounts document how the relationship was described at the time. They do not provide a later account of a breakup.

How did they work together on The Other Half?
The Other Half is a fictional romantic drama directed by Joey Klein, not a documentary about Maslany and Cullen’s relationship. The actors said they had worked with Klein on the project over several years. Maslany recalled its development this way: “For like five years and Joey, the director, has been writing it for ten. It was a long time coming, and a lot of different tryouts and versions of it.”
Their familiarity as a couple informed their work on set, according to Cullen. In a March 2016 interview with the Evening Standard, he said: “Working with someone you are in a relationship with, you get to bypass all the niceties. We have a shorthand and a trust with each other that meant we could go in deep and really hard —” The quotation trails off in the published interview.

In a March 24, 2016, Nylon interview, Cullen called their time in Budapest “a very romantic six months.” His remark described that period, not what may have happened to the relationship afterward.
Does the film explain what happened between them?
No. The film’s characters, Emily and Nickie, have a complicated fictional relationship. Cullen told Nylon in 2017: “Relationships are difficult. I don’t want to go to the cinema and watch two people have an easy ending because that just isn’t what happens.” He was discussing the movie, not giving an explanation of his private life with Maslany.
Lines about the characters’ difficulties or ending should not be treated as clues about a later breakup. The film and the actors’ real relationship are separate subjects.

The interviews and reports cited here do not verify whether they broke up, when it might have happened, or why. Nor do they confirm their current relationship status. The record supports saying they were publicly described as a couple through 2017; it does not support a specific breakup narrative.
