The outlet said a friend had raised the alarm after he missed a planned morning swim. The report quoted police saying they would prepare a report for the Coroner; it did not establish a cause or manner of death, and the reports reviewed here do not include a coroner’s finding.
What PerthNow reported
In a report published on 13 November 2024, PerthNow said a lifeguard found Plummer at the foot of a cliff in Freshwater. According to the outlet, a friend raised the alarm after Plummer missed a planned 6:30 a.m. swim. PerthNow also reported that police attended his home and that his body was found about an hour later. These are details reported by PerthNow, not findings independently established by the police statement quoted in the article. PerthNow, 13 November 2024.
What police said—and what it does not establish
PerthNow attributed this statement to an unnamed NSW Police spokesperson: “Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner regarding the death of a 49-year-old man at Freshwater on Sunday.”
The statement describes a report being prepared for the Coroner. It does not state a cause or manner of death. The reviewed reports do not provide an official coroner’s finding, so those details should not be treated as confirmed. LBC published substantially similar wording attributed to a NSW Police Force spokesperson, but that is another media report of the statement, not a separate coroner’s determination. Why the reported day is unclear
PerthNow’s 12 November story described Plummer’s death as occurring on Saturday, while its 13 November report referred to the body being found on Sunday. The reports therefore differ in their day references. Without independent confirmation, the careful description is that the death was reported in November 2024, rather than assigning a specific day. PerthNow, 12 November 2024.
Alan and Erin Jayne Plummer
PerthNow’s coverage identified Alan Plummer as the husband of Erin Jayne Plummer, a Studio 10 presenter. The outlet reported that Erin Jayne died in May 2022, aged 42, and that the couple had three daughters.
