Spoilers for the “Full Nelson” season two finale. The finale opens two connected paths for the DCU: Peacemaker and former ARGUS associates form Checkmate, while Rick Flag Sr. sends Chris to Salvation, a world he intends to turn into a prison for metahumans. James Gunn said Checkmate will continue in the DCU and that the finale leads into Man of Tomorrow; he said there were no current plans for a third season. The team’s future is confirmed, but the next project and Chris’s fate are not.
What happens in the Peacemaker season 2 finale?
In “Full Nelson,” Chris and his allies rescue him from custody and persuade him that he does not have to see himself as responsible for every tragedy around him. The group then forms Checkmate, a new organization after its members have grown distrustful of ARGUS.
The founding group includes Leota Adebayo, Emilia Harcourt, John Economos, Adrian Chase/Vigilante, and Chris, alongside Sasha Bordeaux, Langston Fleury, and Rip Jagger/Judo Master. The finale gives the former 11th Street Kids a structure to work within, rather than leaving them as a loose team.
What is Salvation, and why does Flag Sr. send Chris there?
Flag Sr. works with people connected to Lex Luthor and uses the Quantum Unfolding Chamber to explore other dimensions. He chooses a habitable world and names it Salvation, intending to make it a prison for metahumans. He has Chris abducted and sends him there as its first prisoner, presenting a falsified authorization and framing the act as revenge for Chris killing Rick Flag Jr.

Salvation has a comics precedent in Salvation Run, but that does not mean the show is adapting the comic storyline one-to-one. Coverage of Gunn’s approach describes him as adapting concepts rather than following specific comics plots exactly. Readers interested in the source-material connection can look for Salvation Run; it is not necessary to understand the finale.
Will Checkmate continue in the DCU?
Yes. In an October 10, 2025, TV Insider report, James Gunn said: “You’ll definitely see Checkmate carrying through. They’re a thing now, so they’re a part of what’s gonna happen, and I think they’re gonna be really, really good at what they do.” He also said the team’s circumstances would be different the next time audiences see it. That confirms Checkmate’s continuation, not a particular series, release date, or lineup beyond the finale.

Does the finale set up Man of Tomorrow?
TheWrap reported on October 9, 2025, that Gunn had said the season two ending would lead directly into Man of Tomorrow. That is a stated connection between the finale and the film, but its exact plot mechanics and scale have not been established. The report does not confirm that Salvation will be a major location, that particular characters will be imprisoned there, or what happens to Chris.
Will there be a Peacemaker season 3?
In October 2025 comments reported by TheWrap, Gunn said there were no current plans for a third season. He also made clear that Peacemaker matters to him and could return in another form. That leaves room for Chris to appear elsewhere in the DCU, but does not amount to an announcement of a spin-off or another season.

Two story threads, one unresolved cliffhanger
The finale’s broader direction is a contrast between an emerging team and a growing threat: Checkmate gives the ensemble an ongoing agency framework, while Salvation creates a DCU conflict around Flag Sr.’s metahuman prison and Chris’s captivity. They are complementary setups, not confirmed competing projects. Gunn’s statements establish Checkmate’s continuation and the reported link to Man of Tomorrow; the details of the next story remain open.
