The interview was published four days later.
What did Omar Apollo mean by “emulate that feeling”?
A PEOPLE reporter asked Apollo how he made the intimate scenes with Craig feel authentic even though the actors were working together for the first time. Apollo’s answer pointed to his experience making music videos: he tried to emulate the feeling of those performances.

He did not identify a particular video, say he copied a specific sequence, or describe the scene as improvised. His comment is an account of the sensibility he drew on, not a detailed explanation of the scene’s choreography or production.
How does this fit with Apollo’s earlier comments about acting?
In an August 29, 2024 interview with WBEZ’s Vocalo, Apollo said he had always wanted to act and that director Luca Guadagnino contacted him directly about the role. Speaking about acting generally, he said, “It’s similar to a music video.” That earlier remark is separate from his later, scene-specific answer to PEOPLE, but it helps explain why music videos were a natural point of comparison for him.

What is Apollo’s role in Queer?
Guadagnino’s Queer adapts William S. Burroughs’s novel. Daniel Craig plays Lee, an American expatriate in 1950s Mexico City, and Drew Starkey plays Eugene Allerton. Apollo’s character is unnamed, and the role is his first in a feature film, according to Them. The Associated Press also describes the film’s postwar Mexico City setting and Craig’s character.

In a separate interview with The Advocate, published December 6, 2024, Apollo recalled being told how explicit the scene was and agreeing to it immediately: “I got the call and [they] told me about the scene and how explicit it was. I instantly just said yes. I was like, Yeah, of course. It’s Daniel Craig. Of course I’m down.” This is his account of agreeing to the scene, distinct from his explanation to PEOPLE of the creative reference he drew on.
