At the 82nd Golden Globes on January 5, 2025, Nikki Glaser paused the ceremony for a midshow recap of what winners had thanked in their acceptance speeches. In a sports-broadcast style, she tallied 11 shout-outs to “cast and crew,” three to “mom,” and none to God, according to the Associated Press.
What was Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globes scoreboard?
It was a comic tally of shout-outs heard in acceptance speeches, delivered around the halfway point of the ceremony as if Glaser were reporting a score. A Yahoo Entertainment headline described the moment as a “giant scoreboard,” while the Associated Press reported the numbers Glaser gave on air. The available reporting establishes the scoreboard premise and the tally, but not further visual details or additional categories.
How many times did winners thank their moms?
Glaser’s reported count was three mentions of “mom.” For comparison, she counted 11 shout-outs for “cast and crew” and zero for God. These were the on-air counts reported by AP, not an independently audited analysis of every acceptance speech.
| Category in Glaser’s tally | Reported count |
|---|---|
| “Cast and crew” | 11 shout-outs |
| “Mom” | 3 shout-outs |
| God | 0 shout-outs |
Why was Glaser’s hosting style relatively gentle?
Before the ceremony, Glaser told CNN she had been hired in part because of her Tom Brady roast, but drew a distinction between that event and an awards show. Brady had agreed to be roasted, she said; the Golden Globes nominees had not signed up for that treatment. Her scoreboard bit let her tease the room through a shared ceremony ritual rather than treating nominees as roast participants.
