What Kidman said about filming Babygirl
Kidman discussed the experience with Zendaya in a Variety Actors on Actors conversation. In December 2024 reporting about the interview, she said that some material shot for the film but left out of the final cut was “exhausting” and “emotionally disturbing.”

She also described the strain of performing intense scenes: “So you’re putting yourself through the trauma.” Kidman said her body and psyche could respond as if what was happening on screen were real, and spoke about wanting to finish the work feeling free rather than scarred or wounded. The word “trauma” here is her language for her acting experience; the comments do not establish a clinical diagnosis.
What the film’s story involved
Babygirl is Halina Reijn’s erotic thriller. Kidman plays Romy, a high-powered CEO who begins an affair with Samuel, her younger intern, played by Harris Dickinson.

Kidman’s remarks concerned the demands she associated with performing scenes for this particular film, including footage that was ultimately cut. They do not establish that every performer experiences such scenes in the same way.
How Kidman described trying to move forward
Kidman said she was still learning not to sacrifice her body for her work, describing the tension between that impulse and valuing herself as “a journey.” She also mentioned massage, prayer, sage and other personal rituals as ways she sought to feel ready to move forward. Those were her own descriptions, not recommendations or evidence that the practices treat trauma.
