Han’s unmistakable orange Mazda RX-7 in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was an FD3S fitted with VeilSide’s Fortune wide-body kit—and, according to production-history reporting, it began life as a VeilSide show car rather than a movie build. It was also only one of several RX-7s used during filming, so the feature car’s reported modifications should not be assumed to match every RX-7 on screen.
What RX-7 is Han’s car?
It is a third-generation Mazda RX-7, chassis code FD3S, transformed with VeilSide’s Fortune body kit. VeilSide identifies the Fortune as the model used for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and lists it in the film-franchise showcase.
The Fortune conversion is extensive: the official kit comprises a front bumper spoiler, front fenders, hood, headlight set, side skirts, door panels, rear fenders, rear gate, side mirror, rear bumper spoiler, rear wing, Lexan glasses and emblems. That combination—not merely the orange paint or a single spoiler—is what gives Han’s RX-7 its distinctive wide, low profile. VeilSide’s Fortune FD3S product page and its Fast & Furious showcase identify the model and kit.
It reportedly started as a show car
Accounts by Motor Authority, published October 18, 2020, and Road & Track, published July 15, 2020, cite early-franchise technical advisor Craig Lieberman in describing the car’s history. VeilSide had built the RX-7 to showcase its Fortune kit; the car was later purchased for the film. It reportedly appeared at Tokyo Auto Salon in 2004, a date specified by Road & Track.

The car was originally red, then repainted House of Color Sunset Pearl orange for filming, according to Motor Authority’s account of Lieberman’s description. Its screen identity was therefore a combination of a distinctive pre-existing show-car conversion and a film-specific finish.
The feature car was not the only RX-7 used
Lieberman’s production-history figures, as reported by both Motor Authority and Road & Track, put the number of RX-7s used for different filming needs at nine. The reports say two survived. Road & Track adds that the survivors were sold to private parties through Newera Imports. These are historical reporting figures, not a current ownership register; the reports do not establish who owns the cars today.

Multiple cars were used because a production needs vehicles for different shots and filming tasks. The orange Fortune RX-7 is the recognizable feature car, but there is no basis for treating every RX-7 seen in the movie as the same individual car or as having identical parts and mechanical setup.
What was reportedly modified on the feature car?
Lieberman’s reported details for the feature/show car go beyond its bodywork. Motor Authority and Road & Track describe a HKS turbocharger, VeilSide titanium exhaust, upgraded audio, coilovers and larger brakes. Road & Track also names Andrew Racing Evolution V wheels. The accounts mention a plumbed nitrous system; Motor Authority says it is unclear whether the bottle was hooked up.

- An import from Aoshima
- Detailed 13B engine
- Retractable headlights can be assembled in the open position
- Work Meister S1 wheels in a plated finish
- Also includes strut tower brace, muffler, special front bumper, water slide decal sheet, and window masking sheet
Those details belong to the reported feature car, not automatically to all nine production RX-7s. The available accounts do not provide a complete, car-by-car specification sheet for the stunt and other filming vehicles, so claims that every one had the same turbo, suspension, exhaust or nitrous setup go beyond what is established.

For a visual replica, the official VeilSide Fortune FD3S kit is the most direct starting point: it supplies the defining body conversion. But it is not a complete recreation of the movie car. The kit does not, by itself, reproduce the reported engine, suspension, exhaust, audio, wheels, paint finish or the original show-car and production history.

Before choosing a replica, compare the aspects that matter to your goal:
- Bodywork: Is it an FD3S with the Fortune conversion, or a different body kit with a similar silhouette?
- Paint and finish: Does it match the film’s orange appearance, or is it simply an orange RX-7?
- Wheels and mechanical parts: Are the choices documented as matching the feature car, or are they a builder’s interpretation?
- Provenance: If a seller calls a car an original movie car, are the claim and the specific vehicle’s history documented?
VeilSide lists the Fortune kit on its official FD3S product page. Check that page directly for current fitment details, price, lead time and shipping; those terms can change and depend on where the buyer is located.
