A 1993 Vanity Fair profile described Pfeiffer caring for Claudia herself at night. The profile quoted her saying, “But I wanted this child to know who her mother was.” That account speaks to Pfeiffer’s approach during Claudia’s infancy; it cannot, by itself, establish what their relationship was like in later years.
Kelley joined a family already taking shape
Kelley entered Pfeiffer and Claudia’s lives after the adoption process had begun. Pfeiffer later said he accepted the situation and developed a close bond with Claudia. In the CNN interview, she recalled thinking that Kelley was falling in love with Claudia even before he knew whether he was in love with Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer and Kelley married in 1993. The 2026 El País account reports that Kelley later legally adopted Claudia. Together, these accounts describe a family that grew from Pfeiffer’s decision to adopt as a single parent; they do not suggest that Kelley initiated that decision.
Adoption was not treated as a secret at home
In a 2006 report, ABC News quoted Pfeiffer saying, “Adoption is not a taboo word in our house. It is never to be treated as forbidden subject.” The report also described the parents as protective of their children’s privacy. Her comment supports the narrower point that adoption was something the family could discuss openly; it does not provide a detailed account of what Claudia herself has said or felt about it.

A September 2026 report by El País says Claudia became a mother in 2024, making Pfeiffer a grandmother.
