Marina Sena’s line “Não consigo fazer música ruim, é mais forte que eu” — roughly, “I can’t make bad music; it’s stronger than me” — was an expression of confidence in her creative instinct, not a claim that every listener must like every song. In a POPline interview published 1 May 2023, shortly after the release of her second solo album, Vício Inerente, Sena described experimentation as central to how she makes music.
What did Marina Sena mean by “I can’t make bad music”?
The Portuguese headline, “Não consigo fazer música ruim, é mais forte que eu,” is best understood as a bold, playful statement of artistic conviction. Sena was describing the strength of her instinct to make music in her own way—not offering an objective verdict on the quality of every track or promising that her choices would appeal to everyone.
In the interview, she acknowledged that listeners may respond differently to her decisions. Discussing “Tudo Pra Amar Você,” she said she was not troubled by the possibility that some people might dislike the use of Auto-Tune. That is a specific example of her comfort with an artistic choice, not evidence that she dismisses all criticism. POPline’s interview with Sena, by Douglas Françoza, was published on 1 May 2023.
Why experimentation mattered on Vício Inerente
The interview followed the release of Vício Inerente on 27 April 2023. POPline identifies it as Sena’s second solo album, after De Primeira, released in August 2021. Revista Continente also described the 2023 album as containing 12 new compositions.

Sena spoke of technology, instruments and “vibe” as resources she wants to use, and framed risk-taking as part of making music. She also connected the songs’ coherence to writing them herself: her own compositional language, she said, helps hold varied material together. Her confidence therefore sits alongside a process of trying different sounds and approaches, rather than relying on one fixed formula.
The publications describe the album using several genre references, including drill, funk, reggaeton, house, trap and pagodão baiano in POPline’s account, and trap, reggaeton, drill and R&B in Revista Continente’s. These are descriptions of the music’s range, not a definitive single-genre classification. Sena also told Continente that her pop is informed by MPB, which she described as the first compositional language in which she felt comfortable. She put her sense of authenticity simply: “Eu me acho uma artista muito autêntica mesmo, até porque não consigo não ser” (“I think I’m a very authentic artist, because I can’t not be”). Revista Continente’s interview was published on 27 April 2023.

How Vício Inerente differs from De Primeira
Sena described the change between the albums chiefly in terms of timbre and sound texture. She characterized De Primeira as taking a more organic approach, while on Vício Inerente she was more willing to use vocal effects and digital processing, including Auto-Tune and distorted vocals. This contrast describes a shift in emphasis; it does not mean the earlier album used no technology or that the later one is entirely processed.
Producer Iuri Rio Branco worked with Sena on both records. In POPline’s account, she described that continuity as one source of a through-line in timbre and texture, while her own songwriting helps bring different musical ideas into her personal language. The two interviews support a comparison of the records’ sound and process, but do not establish a critical ranking or which album listeners prefer.

Details from the album interview
- POPline identifies “Dano Sarrada” as the album’s opening track and one of Sena’s favorites.
- “Que Tal” is described as the album’s only collaboration, featuring Fleezus. Sena also discussed her connection to São Paulo’s BRIME! scene and her interest in drill.
- She described “Mais de Mil” as a difficult arrangement that changed several times during the process.
How the 2023 interview fits her earlier career
In a separate interview published on 4 November 2021, Sena reflected on growing up in Taiobeiras, in northern Minas Gerais, and on her work with A Outra Banda da Lua and later Rosa Neon before moving into a solo project. She said “Por Supuesto” was several years old and nearly missed De Primeira: in a voice-and-guitar form, she felt it sounded immature, but Rio Branco’s production changed her mind.
That earlier conversation offers context for the producer’s role in shaping a song and for Sena’s transition to solo work. Her comments in 2021 about wanting to help Brazilian pop reach international audiences were an ambition she expressed then, not evidence of her current reach. Hugo Gloss published the interview on 4 November 2021.
