Madison Brush said her brother Garrison Brown’s death was connected to mental health—not bullying or a lack of love. Her remarks were a family member’s interpretation, not a formal medical finding. News reports at the time separately relayed police information that the death appeared to be a suicide.
What Madison Brush said
In an Instagram video reported on March 18, 2024, Madison spoke about the importance of mental health and said: “It wasn’t bullying. It wasn’t a lack of love that Garrison had, it was mental health. And I am going to continue talking about mental health and self care until I am blue in the face.” Entertainment Tonight reported her remarks, and E! News covered the same central message.
Madison also recalled that Garrison had felt he was not doing enough when he compared himself with what he saw on social media. She said social media “isn’t real.” Those comments reflect her account of her brother’s experience; they are not independent confirmation of what he felt or of the cause of his death.
What news reports said about the police response
Garrison died in March 2024, aged 25. Contemporary reports placed the police response at his Arizona residence on March 5. Entertainment Tonight reported that Flagstaff police were called after Garrison’s younger brother contacted them, and that authorities described an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound; the outlet also reported that foul play was not suspected. E! News reported that police had told NBC News the death appeared to be a suicide, while noting that an official cause had not yet been revealed in its report.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Madison emphasized mental health and social media
Madison used her comments to encourage attention to mental health and self-care. Her recollection about social-media comparisons adds context to that message: she said Garrison compared himself with things he saw online and felt he was falling short. Her point was that social media does not show the whole of a person’s life.
