What are MacKenzie Bezos’s books?
In a review published January 19, 2019, Molly Brown identifies two novels by MacKenzie Bezos: The Testing of Luther Albright, published in 2005, and Traps, published in 2013. Brown’s broad impression is that both books unfold slowly and seriously, focusing on people’s internal conflicts in everyday life. How does The Testing of Luther Albright differ?
Brown describes this novel as told from the perspective of Luther, a flawed man whose rigid habits and emotional reserve undermine the family connection he wants. His wife is also a strong presence in the review’s account, making family relationships central to Brown’s reading of the book.

Brown characterizes the ending as lacking both a happy resolution and a sense of completeness. Readers choosing between the novels on the basis of closure may want to keep that impression in mind; it is Brown’s reading, not a universal verdict.
What does Traps focus on?
Brown describes Traps as following four women from difficult backgrounds. She emphasizes their resilience and independence. In her account, the male characters tend to be harmful or, by contrast, unusually supportive.

Brown describes the women’s journey as painful, but says the novel arrives at a relatively pleasant twist. Compared with her description of The Testing of Luther Albright, this suggests a more hopeful finish, though it does not establish how every reader will experience the ending.
