PerthNow reported that staff and patrons filled it with memorabilia, ticket stubs, handwritten notes and memories from community members.
What was in the time capsule?
According to PerthNow’s August 21, 2025 report, the capsule contained memorabilia connected with the cinema, ticket stubs, handwritten notes and memories contributed by members of the community. The report does not give a complete inventory or identify when the capsule is meant to be opened.
Where and when was it buried?
Staff and patrons buried the capsule in August 2025 beneath a tree behind Luna Leederville. The event marked 30 years since the venue began operating in 1994 as a twin-screen cinema at the corner of Oxford and Vincent streets, as reported by PerthNow.
Why the anniversary mattered to the cinema
The report presents Luna Leederville as more than a place to watch films: it describes a local meeting place shaped by its staff, patrons and community. Staff member Claudia Cukrov, who manages social media, recalled that some early customers apparently mistook the venue for a cinema showing adult films. She also described the cinema weathering nearby competitors, the rise of streaming, the pandemic and a writers’ strike. These are comments reported by PerthNow, not independently verified measures of the cinema’s business performance.

Owner Ingrid van den Berghe described Luna’s mission as bringing Perth audiences films and experiences unavailable elsewhere. City of Vincent mayor Alison Xamon called Luna Palace Cinemas a cultural landmark and a destination for film fans across Western Australia. Those characterizations appear in the PerthNow report.
Luna’s place among Perth cinemas
PerthNow situates Luna Leederville within a wider group of venues that includes Windsor Luna, Luna on SX in Fremantle, Cinema Paradiso in Northbridge, Luna Outdoor and Camelot. The report also says the cinema had received four AIDA awards for Best Metropolitan Independent Cinema, but it does not give the award years or a separate award record; that count is therefore attributable to PerthNow’s 2025 coverage.
