Hannah Jiles said she ended her engagement to Nick Dorka because they were bringing out the worst in each other and she did not believe they should marry. Nick later described a strong connection and lessons he took from the relationship, while also saying there were things he wanted in a partner that Hannah did not do well. Those are each person’s reflections, not a shared explanation of the breakup.
Why Hannah said she ended the engagement
In an interview excerpt published October 18, 2024, Hannah said, “I think we brought out the worst in each other.” She said they had both tried to make the relationship work, but thought it probably should have ended earlier. “I just feel like when we ended it, it was time,” she said. Hannah gave more detail in a Us Weekly interview published October 23, 2024. She said there was no single incident that prompted her decision. While Nick was away at a friend’s wedding and her mother was visiting, she realized she was “being the nastiest version of myself.” She also recalled trying on wedding dresses and understanding that she could not go through with marrying him.
She said she did not want their families to attend a wedding when both of them knew the relationship might not work. Hannah described the relationship as having become nasty, and said she wanted to end it before it got worse. She also acknowledged that she had spoken to Nick “horribly,” apologized for it, and said she could have eased up in some conversations. These are Hannah’s account and assessment of her own conduct, rather than an independent record of what happened between them.

What Nick said he took from the relationship
In a retrospective season 7 cast update, Nick said Hannah pushed him to think differently about initiative and responsibility. He called her fantastic and said they had a strong connection. He also said there were things he wanted in a partner that she “didn’t do the best on,” and wished she had been more understanding that nobody is perfect. Netflix Tudum’s season 7 cast update
Nick framed the relationship as meaningful even while describing areas of dissatisfaction: “I got a lot out of being with Hannah.” He also said he was looking for “a best friend and someone who’s going to push you to be the best version of yourself without being too mean.” That reflects what Nick said he valued in a partner; it should not be treated as a neutral judgment of Hannah or as the reason she gave for ending the engagement.

What is—and is not—confirmed about their status
Netflix’s cast update described Nick as single and not dating at the time it was published. That is an interview-era status, not confirmation of his circumstances now.
