What Lizzo Ate in a Day as a Former Vegan: Her Diet, in Context

Lizzo’s October 2024 “What I Eat in a Day: as a Former Vegan” video showed egg whites, chicken, vegetables, fruit and other foods across one day. She said adding animal protein had helped her personally, but this was a dated snapshot—not a current, independently verified menu or evidence that vegan diets generally cause the effects she described.

What Lizzo ate in her October 2024 video

E! reported the following meals and drinks from Lizzo’s October 10, 2024 video:

  • Breakfast: lemon water, egg-white cups, cauliflower hash browns and fruit.
  • Snack: okra water.
  • Lunch: a buffalo-chicken lettuce wrap with mustard and homemade peach tea.
  • Dinner: grilled chicken, asparagus and carrots.

These are the foods shown in that video, not a verified account of what Lizzo eats every day now. Her July 2025 Women’s Health interview discussed her approach to eating but did not give a complete current daily menu.

Why she said she added animal protein

What she said in 2024

In the video, Lizzo described herself as a former vegan and said animal proteins helped her energy, weight goals and mental fog. She also said, “I aspire to one day be a raw, alkaline vegan.” Those comments reflect her own experience and aspirations at that time.

How she explained the change in 2025

In a July 2025 Women’s Health interview, Lizzo said she went vegan in 2020 and later experienced periods of low energy and stomach pain. She recalled that her trainer suggested trying a Japanese diet; after traveling to Japan, she gradually reintroduced animal protein once she returned to the United States.

She described her relationship with eating as something that had changed over time: “When I intuitively eat and listen to my body, that always works out for me,” she told Women’s Health. She also praised carbohydrates, saying, “Carbs are the secret to happiness!”

What she said in 2026

In a June 2026 interview, Lizzo said she gained 50 pounds during her vegan period and attributed that experience to what she was eating, including fake meat and french fries. The 50-pound figure is her personal account, as quoted by Complex, not an independently verified measurement or a statistic about vegan diets generally.

She also said she still sees veganism as a healthy way of eating for some people and hopes to grow vegetables and have a farm. Her point was that animal protein was what her body needed at that time—not that vegan eating is inherently unhealthy.

What her account does—and does not—show

Lizzo’s comments describe changes in her own eating and how she felt. They do not establish that vegan diets cause weight gain, low energy or stomach pain. Nor do they show that a high-protein diet will produce weight loss for everyone. Healthline’s medically reviewed guidance notes that eating more protein does not guarantee weight loss and that higher-protein diets are not suitable for everyone.

Her comments about Ozempic also need a timeline. Coverage of her 2024 video reported her joking about allegations while discussing five months of weight training and a calorie deficit. In 2026, Complex reported that she had later disclosed brief Ozempic use. The sources do not establish the timing or details of that reported use, so the 2024 remarks should not be treated as proof that she never used the medication.
