Lil Wayne appeared to react to a Kendrick Lamar lyric on GNX with a November 23, 2024, post asking, “Man wtf I do?!” But Wayne later said he had spoken with Lamar, did not take the line personally, and wished him well for the Super Bowl halftime show. The post did not name Lamar or the song, so it is more accurate to call it an apparent response than a confirmed callout.
What Kendrick Lamar said on GNX
Lamar references Wayne on “Wacced Out Murals,” the opening track of GNX, which was surprise-released on November 22, 2024. The Associated Press described the album as a 12-track release. The AP’s release report places the song at the start of the track list.
The lyric reads: “Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud/Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.” Lamar recalls admiring Wayne’s music while growing up, then reflects that his own success may have disappointed the artist he once looked up to. Pitchfork reproduced the lyric; the AP characterized the reference as showing Lamar’s admiration for Wayne.
What Lil Wayne posted—and what it did not establish
On November 23, Wayne wrote on X: “Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.” Pitchfork reported the post the day it appeared.

Wayne did not explicitly mention Lamar, GNX, or “Wacced Out Murals” in that post. The timing prompted readers to connect it to the lyric, but the post alone does not confirm its target or prove that Lamar was dissing Wayne.
Why the Super Bowl mattered
The exchange came amid discussion of the Super Bowl LIX halftime-show selection. Lamar was chosen to headline the New Orleans event, while Wayne had expressed hurt about not being selected for the show in his hometown. That context helps explain why a line about Wayne and Lamar’s success drew attention, but it does not settle the lyric’s intent. The AP’s report describes the line as admiring rather than a straightforward insult.

Wayne’s later clarification
In an interview on the Skip Bayless Show, discussed in a December 17, 2024, report by iHeartRadio, Wayne said he had spoken with Lamar after GNX came out and did not take the lyric personally. “He didn’t let me down,” Wayne said. He also wished Lamar well for the halftime performance: “I’ve spoken to him, and I wish him all the best and I told him he better kill it. You gotta kill it.” iHeartRadio reported Wayne’s comments.
