The translated transcript records the manager’s concern; it does not establish Liam Payne’s intent or explain what caused his behavior. Later, Argentina’s prosecutors reported extensive investigative findings and court proceedings over alleged drug supply.
What did the hotel manager tell the dispatcher?
In a translated transcript published by ITV on 17 October 2024, the caller is identified as the hotel manager. The manager described a guest as affected by drugs and alcohol, said the guest was breaking things in the room when conscious, and asked for urgent help.
The manager connected the concern to the room’s balcony, saying: “We need to send someone with urgency because I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger because he is in a room with balcony, and we are afraid he could do something that threatens life.” The transcript records what the manager reported and feared at the time. It is not a medical diagnosis, evidence of Payne’s intent, or a finding about why he was behaving that way. ITV’s translated transcript
Why did the balcony matter?
The manager explicitly cited the balcony as the reason staff feared for the guest’s life and requested an urgent response. That statement establishes that hotel staff raised a safety concern in the call. On its own, however, it cannot establish what Payne intended, what caused his reported behavior, or what happened after the call.

What did prosecutors say their investigation found?
In an update issued on 7 November 2024, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 14 described an investigation that included dozens of witness statements, review of more than 800 hours of security video, examination of phone data, hotel guest and restaurant records, and completed autopsy and laboratory work.
- Drug-supply allegations: Prosecutors said they identified at least four incidents in which third parties supplied drugs to Payne during his stay. These are reported investigative findings and allegations, not convictions.
- Toxicology: Prosecutors said testing found alcohol, cocaine, and traces of prescribed antidepressants in the period before his death.
- Cause of death: The prosecutor’s office reported that the cause was multiple trauma and internal and external hemorrhage caused by the fall.
These points describe the prosecutor’s account of the investigation and its findings; they are not independent testing or a determination of criminal guilt. Argentina’s federal prosecutor’s 7 November 2024 update

How did the court proceedings develop?
Appellate ruling on the accused and the negligent-homicide cases
In a later update, the prosecutor’s office said an appellate court confirmed the processing and pretrial detention of two people accused of supplying drugs. The court also dismissed negligent-homicide proceedings against three people: Payne’s companion, the hotel manager, and the head receptionist. The prosecutor’s office separately reported appeals seeking to reverse dismissals, including one involving an alleged drug-supply or facilitation role. These procedural developments do not amount to convictions. Prosecutor’s office update on the appellate ruling Prosecutor’s office update on appeals against dismissals
