Lee Cronin described his Mummy film as “almost one part ‘Poltergeist’ and one part ‘Seven.’” He was describing a blend of influences, not announcing a remake: Poltergeist supplies the domestic and family dimension, while Seven points toward investigation and hidden secrets.
What did Cronin mean by the comparison?
In an interview with IGN, as reproduced in a search result, Cronin explained the two halves of the comparison. He said Poltergeist represented “the domestic circumstances and the warmth of the family.” By contrast, Seven represented “the dark, investigative angle and the secrets that exist behind it.”
Taken together, those remarks suggest a story that joins horror entering an ordinary family’s world with a darker mystery to investigate. Cronin also described family relationships as central to his writing, and said the story involves people being pulled together and torn apart by something horrific. These are his stated creative intentions, not a guarantee of how the finished film feels or a review of its execution.
Is the film a remake of either movie?
No remake is implied by Cronin’s wording. The Playlist reported his description as an “insane mashup to suggest,” then quoted him saying the film would be filtered through “my lens and the way that I like to entertain people.” The comparison names tonal and storytelling reference points; it does not mean the film retells either Poltergeist or Seven.

What is known about Cronin’s Mummy film?
The Playlist described the project as a horror-focused Mummy film directed by Lee Cronin, with Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Natalie Grace, Verónica Falcón, and May Calamawy among its cast. Its coverage contrasted the horror approach with the action-adventure direction of many modern Mummy films; that characterization should not be taken as a claim about every earlier film in the franchise.
The Playlist reported a scheduled theatrical opening of April 17, 2026. That date has passed; the report establishes the announced schedule, not whether the film opened on that date or its current availability.

Why the two references are useful
Cronin’s explanation makes the comparison less about matching scenes or plots and more about combining two kinds of storytelling: household and family tension on one side, investigation and concealed information on the other. Poltergeist is the reference for the family-centered supernatural dimension; Seven is the reference for a grim inquiry into what lies behind the horror. That is an interpretation of Cronin’s reported comments, rather than an independent description of the completed film.
