That is a report of Amen’s reading of the scan—not an independently confirmed diagnosis or proof of a cause or prognosis.
What did Kim Kardashian’s brain scan reportedly show?
The Daily Beast reported on November 28, 2025, that Amen told Kardashian, “The front part of your brain is less active than it should be.” He also suggested that this could make stress management harder. Both statements describe Amen’s interpretation in the program; they do not establish that Kardashian has a psychiatric condition or explain why the scan appeared as he described.
In a later podcast conversation, Amen characterized the image as showing less activity in the front third of her brain. He associated that area with forethought, judgment, impulse control and focus. Those functional explanations are his account of the scan, not independent findings about Kardashian.
The Daily Beast’s November 28, 2025 report covers the scene and Amen’s quoted interpretation. The episode transcript archive also records Amen saying “the holes mean low activity,” but that is a secondary transcript; the wording should not be treated as definitive dialogue without checking the episode itself.

- Material: Made of robust PVC material. Light-weight, high strength, anti-corrosion, long term service.
What does “low brain activity” mean?
Here, “low activity” refers to Amen’s interpretation of the appearance of a SPECT image, not a standalone clinical diagnosis. The phrase does not, by itself, identify a mental health condition, explain its cause, or predict what will happen. A scan image and a clinician’s reading need to be distinguished from a complete clinical assessment.
What is a brain SPECT scan?
SPECT is a nuclear medicine imaging method. Amen Clinics describes its procedure as involving an injected radioactive tracer to examine patterns of blood flow in the brain. The clinic says a SPECT scan alone does not provide a diagnosis; its process also uses clinical history, interviews, questionnaires and neuropsychological tests.

- 【2X Life-Size Brain Model】This medical-grade brain model magnifies 130 key structures at 2X scale, with 4 magnetic detachable sections highlighting emotion, memory, and learning centers. Perfect for Schools, hospitals, visual aids in physical health teaching. Our brain model anatomy can be used in therapy practices or college anatomy class to teach clients or study what's happening in parts of the brain during stress, anxiety, panic, emotions, memories, etc
- 【Colored Design and Laser-Engraved Labels】The brain model for neuroscience consists of nine vividly colored sections to easily distinguish between the different brain structures, that resist fading, blurring, or smudging.Unlike the hand-written labels used by other living human brain model that fade over time, even without cleaning.
- 【Healty Material Quality】The brain anatomy model is made of green and washable PVC material. Durable, Easy to clean.Due to closed space shippment, there may be some smell, but smell will fade away after putting in open air.
- 【4 Magnetic Detachable Sections】The human brain model is double-life-size and consists of 4 parts that are easy to detach and reassemble. This allows for comprehensive neuroanatomy study of the cerebral hemispheres, brain stem and cerebellum. The 4 detachable parts are held together using magnets making it the safest model for even kids to use and study.
- 【Wide Application】 Our realistic human brain anatomical model 2-piece colour coded can as an ideal study tool for medical anatomy teachers or students, and children's interest development learning tool, which can be used in teaching explanation, doctor-patient communication, model display, learning research or laboratory exhibition.
That distinction matters when interpreting a celebrity’s scan: a description of one image is not equivalent to a diagnosis based on a full evaluation. Amen Clinics’ explanation describes its own approach and should not be taken as a general statement about every provider or every use of SPECT.
Can a brain SPECT scan diagnose a mental health condition?
The American Psychiatric Association’s 2005 resource document concluded that available evidence did not support using brain imaging to diagnose or guide treatment for psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents. That conclusion is dated and specifically limited to pediatric psychiatry; it is not a current, all-ages conclusion about every medical application of SPECT.

The APA also published a 2012 consensus resource addressing claims that neuroimaging markers were already useful for psychiatric diagnosis and treatment selection. These documents provide context for caution about treating an image as a psychiatric answer, but they are dated evidence resources rather than current clinical practice guidelines.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What about radiation exposure?
Nuclear medicine imaging uses ionizing radiation. The FDA says exposure may increase lifetime cancer risk and frames appropriate use as a balance between expected health benefits and potential harms. Amen Clinics states that its average exposure for one SPECT scan is 0.7 rem; the year is not stated in its FAQ. That is the clinic’s figure for its own scan context, not a universal dose for every SPECT protocol.
