The transcript is not a new interview: it records Kevin Hart’s September 18, 2017, interview with Los Angeles County District Attorney investigator Robin Letourneau. It became public when Jonathan “J.T.” Jackson attached it to an amended civil complaint filed in August 2024. Jackson’s complaint argues that the transcript undermines Hart’s account of the case and accuses Hart and his legal team of presenting fabricated evidence; those are allegations, not established court findings.
What the transcript is—and what it says
The document is a record of Hart being interviewed by investigator Robin Letourneau on September 18, 2017, after reports surfaced about a video involving Hart and Montia Sabbag in Las Vegas. The Los Angeles Times reported that Jackson’s amended complaint included the transcript as an exhibit. The document’s appearance in a court filing made it newly public; it was not a newly conducted interview.

Jackson’s complaint uses the transcript to challenge the way Hart and his representatives described events and evidence. But the transcript’s inclusion in a pleading does not mean a judge accepted Jackson’s interpretation, or that a court found Hart fabricated evidence. The Los Angeles Times account of the filing describes Jackson’s claims as allegations.
How the 2017 scandal unfolded
In September 2017, Hart publicly acknowledged poor judgment in a video posted to Instagram. The Washington Post quoted him saying, “I made a bad error in judgement and put myself in an environment where only bad things can happen, and they did.” Sabbag denied involvement in recording the video. At a press conference, she said, “I am not an extortionist”; her lawyer, Lisa Bloom, described her as a crime victim.

Hart’s interview with investigator Letourneau took place on September 18. The transcript later became part of the dispute between Hart and Jackson, who had been Hart’s associate and was accused in the criminal case of trying to extort him.
Was J.T. Jackson cleared of the extortion charges?
Jackson was charged with attempted extortion in 2018. The Los Angeles Times reported that prosecutors later dropped the charges and that Jackson was cleared of the charges brought by the district attorney. That criminal-case outcome is separate from Jackson’s later civil allegations about evidence and a settlement; it does not itself establish those allegations.

How the later lawsuits differ
Montia Sabbag’s lawsuit
Sabbag filed a $60 million lawsuit connected to the scandal. The Los Angeles Times reported that the case was dismissed in 2020. The dismissal is a procedural outcome in Sabbag’s case, not a ruling on Jackson’s later claims against Hart.
Jackson’s civil dispute with Hart
Hart and Jackson entered a settlement in 2021, according to later reporting. Jackson subsequently alleged that Hart failed to use agreed language in a public statement and, in his 2024 suit and amended complaint, accused Hart and his legal team of fabricating or misleadingly presenting evidence. The amended complaint sought $12 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. The complaint’s assertions remain Jackson’s claims unless established by a court.

A separate case involving Hart’s former assistant
A November 2024 tentative ruling addressed anti-SLAPP motions in Hart v. Shakes, a separate case involving claims over a broadcast interview by Hart’s former assistant. That ruling concerned different litigation and should not be treated as a decision in Jackson’s lawsuit.

In April 2025, MyNewsLA reported that a judge ordered Hart to pay arbitration fees in Jackson’s dispute and stayed the court case pending a status conference. That report describes a procedural step, not a final resolution of the civil claims. The reviewed reporting does not establish the case’s ultimate outcome.
