Kenan Thompson said he could not speak to events he had not witnessed, but urged Nickelodeon to investigate further after Quiet on Set brought allegations about the network’s productions back into public discussion. He also expressed sympathy for people who said they had been victimized and called for children’s sets to be safe places.

What did Kenan Thompson say about Quiet on Set?

In a March 2024 appearance on The Tamron Hall Show, Thompson said he could not comment on events he had not personally witnessed. He added that the events described in the docuseries happened after he had left Nickelodeon. The ABC News report published March 28, 2024 quoted him saying, “I can’t really speak on things that I never witnessed.”

Thompson expressed sympathy for people who said they had been victimized and for their families. He also said that telling these stories matters for accountability. His response was not a confirmation of the allegations: he emphasized the limits of his own firsthand knowledge.

What did he mean by “investigate more”?

Asked about Nickelodeon’s reported response to the allegations, Thompson urged the network to do more. “Well, investigate more,” he said, according to the Los Angeles Times report published March 28, 2024. He added, “It’s supposed to be a safe place for kids.”

That was Thompson’s call for further investigation and for safe working environments for children. It should not be read as his finding that a particular allegation was proven or that he had independently investigated the events.

Had Thompson watched the docuseries?

No. ABC News reported that Thompson had not seen Quiet on Set at the time of his Tamron Hall appearance. His comments therefore reflected his own experience and his reaction to reports about the series, not a scene-by-scene response to having watched it.

Did Kenan Thompson work with Dan Schneider?

Thompson had some professional overlap with Schneider on Kenan & Kel, but the reporting distinguishes Schneider’s more substantial involvement with All That from his “created by” credit on Kenan & Kel. That context does not establish that Thompson knew nothing about Schneider or that he could verify the docuseries’ allegations. Vanity Fair’s March 28, 2024 coverage describes the limited-overlap context.

What is Quiet on Set about?

Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV is a four-part Investigation Discovery docuseries that premiered March 17, 2024. It presents accounts and allegations about Nickelodeon productions, including claims involving abuse, sexism, racism, and toxic workplace conditions. Those claims belong to the people who made them; the series’ accounts should not be conflated with findings established by Thompson’s remarks.

The Los Angeles Times described the series as addressing allegations associated with Dan Schneider’s Nickelodeon era in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In its March 28, 2024 report, ABC News said Nickelodeon stated that it could not corroborate or negate allegations concerning productions from decades earlier, while saying it investigates formal complaints and had adopted safeguards. That was the network’s reported position, not an independent determination that every claim had been investigated or resolved.
