Prada made the custom look, and stylist Brie Welch selected it with Holmes. Marie Claire describes Welch as Holmes’s longtime collaborator. “Watermelon” is a color-based editorial nickname, not a quote or stated inspiration from Holmes, Welch, or Prada.

How did the look read on the red carpet?
The outfit’s impact came from the contrast: saturated green above, soft pink below, and sparkle on the long skirt. Harper’s Bazaar connected the green-and-pink palette to Wicked; that is the publication’s interpretation, not a confirmed explanation from Holmes or her stylist.
A later Marie Claire account describes the top as green taffeta with an open back and the skirt as crystal-embellished. That follow-up uses different wording from the Tony-specific report’s description of silver beads, so those surface details are best attributed to their respective accounts.
