According to the court-document account of his June 2024 traffic stop, Justin Timberlake told an officer: “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.” Police also alleged that he failed to stay in his lane and ran a stop sign. The initial misdemeanor charge was later reduced, and Timberlake pleaded guilty to impaired driving in September 2024.
What Timberlake told the officer
The statement reported in the court papers was: “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.” The Associated Press reported the wording on June 18, 2024, attributing it to the court document describing the stop: AP’s report on the arrest and court document.

That is an account of what Timberlake reportedly told police, not a measurement of his alcohol level. The reported stop took place shortly after midnight on June 18 in Sag Harbor, New York.
What police alleged in the report
The officer’s account said Timberlake failed to stay in his lane and ran a stop sign. The filing also described bloodshot and glassy eyes, an odor of alcohol, slowed speech, unsteadiness, difficulty dividing attention and poor performance on standardized field sobriety tests. Those are allegations and observations attributed to the police filing, not independent findings.

After the arrest and transport to a police station in nearby East Hampton, Timberlake refused a breath test, according to the AP’s account. CBS, citing court documents, reported three refusals: CBS’s report on the court documents.
What the later-released police video shows
In March 2026, Sag Harbor police released roughly eight hours of redacted footage, including the stop and field sobriety testing. The village and Timberlake’s lawyers agreed to release the redacted video after a records dispute; a court found that releasing it with redactions did not constitute an unwarranted invasion of privacy. The AP’s coverage describes the footage and the exchange: AP’s report on the released police video.

In the footage, Timberlake says, “I’m on a world tour.” When the officer asks, “Doing what?” Timberlake replies, “Hard to explain,” then says, “World tour. I’m Justin Timberlake.” The released footage offers a recorded account of the stop; it is redacted and should not be confused with a finding that resolves every allegation.
What Timberlake’s lawyer said
In 2024, Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke, disputed the DWI allegation, saying Timberlake was not intoxicated and should not have been arrested. That was the defense position, not a court finding. The AP report on the lawyer’s response covered the dispute.
