A viral London video shows a TikTok creator being handcuffed by a plainclothes officer after a tourist restrained him during an Apple Pay-style prank. The Standard reported that the creator, identified as F Boogie, pretended to take £1,000 from the tourist. The footage shows an intervention, but the available reports do not confirm a formal arrest, charge, or what happened afterward.
What happened in the River Thames video?
In a report published on June 5, 2025, The Standard described F Boogie approaching a tourist near the River Thames and pretending to take £1,000. The tourist believed money had been taken from his card and restrained the creator. The report says the video shows a plainclothes officer arriving and handcuffing him.
The Standard also reported similar sound-based pranks, including one at a Tesco in Woolwich. In that separate incident, an unnamed shopper said a prankster claimed to have received a £30 charity donation. That report does not establish that a donation was actually made.
Was the prankster formally arrested?
The footage and reporting support saying that an officer handcuffed the creator; they do not, on their own, establish a formal arrest or its legal basis. The reviewed reports do not confirm a police record, charge, release, conviction, or subsequent case outcome. AppleInsider’s June 6, 2025 report likewise says the available coverage did not explain what happened after the filmed incident. It would therefore be premature to say that F Boogie was charged or to state a final police outcome.

Did a real Apple Pay payment happen?
The video’s payment-like sound and the prankster’s claim are not independent proof of a completed transaction. The reports reviewed do not provide transaction records or an authoritative confirmation of whether a payment was attempted, logged, or completed. They describe no physical or financial harm, but that is not the same as verified transaction evidence.
For the Thames incident, The Standard’s account is £1,000. AppleInsider noted that another report initially gave £10,000 and later changed it to £1,000; the higher figure should not be treated as the established amount.

Can someone take money by tapping two phones together?
Apple’s documented payment features do not support the idea that a stranger can simply drain someone’s card by holding phones together. Apple Pay purchases, Apple Cash transfers, and merchant Tap to Pay are distinct functions:
| Feature | Who initiates or accepts payment | Availability and requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Pay purchase | The customer pays a merchant at a contactless reader. | Apple lists Apple Pay as supported in the UK. Apple’s UK instructions say a Face ID iPhone user double-clicks the side button, authenticates with Face ID or a passcode, then presents the device to the reader. Apple’s UK purchase instructions. |
| Apple Cash person-to-person transfer | A user sends money to another person through Apple Cash. | Apple says sending and receiving money with Apple Cash are available only in the United States; this is not the UK Apple Pay purchase feature. Apple Support’s country availability page. |
| Tap to Pay on iPhone | A merchant accepts a customer’s contactless payment. | It is a merchant feature used through a supported payment app, not a consumer function for one stranger to take money from another person’s card. Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone overview. |
That distinction explains why a sound effect can make a prank appear convincing without proving that a payment took place: the sound is not a receipt, bank record, or confirmation from a payment provider.
