The “babysitting” remark often associated with Justin Bieber’s former bodyguard came from an unnamed source quoted by E! News in 2013—not from an identified former guard. E! reported that Bieber had hired a new security team and attributed comments about the work to that source. Separately, former bodyguard Moshe Benabou sued Bieber that year, alleging assault and unpaid wages; the cited report does not establish the outcome of the case.
What did the “babysitting” remark actually say?
In a June 19, 2013 report about Bieber hiring a new security team, E! News quoted an unnamed source saying: “I don’t know why, but I know some former security guys have felt like they were babysitting him.” The report did not identify that source as a former bodyguard, nor did it name the former security workers said to have felt that way. The remark is therefore anonymous-source reporting, not a verified quotation from a named guard. E! News, June 19, 2013.
The same source said the new team was “working around the clock” and that Bieber was “all over the place.” Those comments, too, were attributed to the unnamed source. E!’s report described a team change; it did not establish an independently verified reason for the change or document the team’s actual hours.
Was Justin Bieber sued by a former bodyguard?
Yes. In 2013, former bodyguard Moshe Benabou filed a lawsuit alleging that Bieber repeatedly punched him in the chest after an argument and then fired him. Benabou also alleged he had been told he was not entitled to overtime, despite working 14-to-18-hour days from March 2011 through October 2012. He sought $421,261 in unpaid overtime, vacation and other wage benefits, plus unspecified damages on assault and battery claims. These are allegations reported by the Associated Press, not findings of a court; the cited report does not give the case’s outcome. Associated Press via CBS News, 2013.

Benabou’s attorney, Ilan Heimanson, argued that his client had devoted himself to Bieber’s safety and deserved to be treated with respect and in accordance with the law. That statement was advocacy made in connection with the lawsuit, not a judicial conclusion.
What later accounts say about protecting Bieber
Security and personal space
In 2016, Bieber and his director of security, Mikey Arana, appeared in the documentary Bodyguards: Secret Lives From the Watchtower. Arana discussed the challenge of managing crowds while protecting Bieber and allowing fan interaction. Bieber described security as a way to create personal space: “The hardest part is just space. Having security, it creates space for me. It creates boundaries.” This offers a later account of the practical tension between access and protection, rather than confirmation of the 2013 anonymous-source remark. Entertainment Tonight, 2016.

A temporary assignment in India
During Bieber’s May 2017 visit to India, Shera, Salman Khan’s bodyguard, was assigned to protect him. Shera described accompanying Bieber around Mumbai and said the singer wanted personal space and to do his own thing. This was event security for a particular visit, not evidence that Shera was Bieber’s former long-term bodyguard. Hindustan Times, 2017.
A named former guard’s podcast appearance
Apple Podcasts lists a July 2019 Hollywood Raw episode featuring former bodyguard Kenny Hamilton Jr. and describes it as a look at protecting a superstar. The listing does not provide a quotation from Hamilton that confirms the claim that working for Bieber was “not easy.” Apple Podcasts, Hollywood Raw.

The available accounts point to distinct pressures—crowd management, maintaining boundaries, and, in Benabou’s case, allegations about long working days and pay—but they do not establish a profession-wide measure of difficulty or prove the anonymous 2013 description. Benabou’s claimed hours and wages concern one lawsuit and should not be generalized to celebrity security work as a whole.
