In a December 2023 interview, John Amos said he loved his daughter Shannon and that the family still loved one another, even as he described their relationship as “somewhat acrimonious.” His words expressed hope for reconciliation; they did not settle the competing claims about his care.
What John Amos said about his daughter and family
In a December 13, 2023 interview with People, excerpts of which Yahoo Entertainment published, Amos spoke about his relationship with Shannon and his son, K.C. He said: “I love [Shannon]. K.C. loves his sister. We just have, I guess, what might be best described in the tabloids as an acrimonious relationship, but everything heals in time, and the love is still there.”
He also described the relationship as “somewhat acrimonious,” while expressing hope for a more harmonious future. “Suffice it to say we are still family, and we love each other, and that’s the bottom line,” he said.
Why the remarks came amid a public dispute
Amos’s comments were made during a dispute over his care. Shannon Amos alleged elder abuse and financial exploitation. John Amos denied neglect and made allegations against Shannon, according to contemporaneous reporting by the Los Angeles Times. Those were competing claims, not a determination of what happened.
