Vance later said he regretted that many people took the comments the wrong way, but the available reports do not establish that this later statement was directed at Aniston.
What did J.D. Vance say about “childless cat ladies”?
In a 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, Vance was discussing Democratic leaders when he described them as “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too,” as ABC News quoted the remark in its report: ABC News.
The comment became a renewed point of public discussion in July 2024, when the interview clip resurfaced. Vance made the original remark years before Aniston responded; it was not a reaction to her.

How did Vance’s campaign respond?
When CBS News asked about the remarks, Vance’s campaign pointed the outlet to separate comments from 2021. In those remarks, Vance said he was not targeting people who were unable to have children for varied reasons, including medical reasons. That distinction was presented by the campaign in response to CBS; it does not change the wording of the “childless cat ladies” comment quoted from the Carlson interview. CBS News.
