Does JJK Modulo Chapter 23 Feel Rushed? What It Sets Up Before the Finale

Chapter 23 gives readers grounds to question JJK Modulo’s pacing, but its final two installments—not one chapter alone—determine whether the setup pays off.

Spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 23 and the series’ ending. Chapter 23 can make the manga’s final stretch feel compressed, but it cannot prove that Gege Akutami has “no idea how to end a manga.” It is one installment in a collaborative series, and the judgment depends on whether its setup pays off across Chapters 24 and 25.

What Chapter 23 can—and cannot—prove

The headline’s charge is a sharp opinion, not a fact that can be established from a single chapter. A reader can assess what Chapter 23 puts on the page: its pacing, transitions, exposition and placement near the conclusion. Those are fair grounds for criticism. They do not reveal Akutami’s private intentions or establish a general inability to end manga.

That distinction matters especially here. VIZ credits both Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki as creators of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo; reducing the series to one creator’s work leaves out its collaborative authorship. The chapter is best judged as part of that shared work and as a penultimate stretch of a short run, rather than as a verdict on one author’s entire career.

Where Chapter 23 sits in the ending

VIZ dates Chapter 23 to February 22, 2026. It followed Chapter 22, dated February 15, and came before Chapter 24, dated March 1. Chapter 25, dated March 8, concluded the chapter run. MANGA Plus marks the series completed.

That sequence changes the question. Chapter 23 was not the ending itself: it had two installments after it in which the story could develop or resolve what it introduced. A chapter that feels like setup when read weekly may land differently when followed immediately by the next chapters. Conversely, the short runway gives readers a legitimate reason to scrutinize whether the setup receives enough room.

Does Chapter 23 feel rushed?

“Rushed” is a reader’s judgment about how a story allocates space and connects its turns, not a measurable property with a single objective threshold. The useful test is whether the chapter’s shifts feel earned, whether exposition clarifies the stakes rather than interrupting them, and whether the material it raises has a meaningful place in the remaining story.

For readers following the weekly release, the February 22 installment necessarily arrived on its own, with a week between chapters 22 and 23 and another week before chapter 24. That publication rhythm can make an abrupt transition or a large setup feel especially exposed. Reading the whole ending together offers more context, though it does not automatically fix a transition that feels underdeveloped.

A February 24 review from Voices in the Void called Chapter 23 disappointing, showing that at least one contemporary critic reacted negatively. That is one reviewer’s response, not evidence of a consensus or a measure of reader satisfaction.

How to judge whether the setup pays off

The strongest case for the criticism is not that Chapter 23 proves anything about Akutami’s ability; it is that a chapter so close to the conclusion asks the final installments to do substantial work. To assess the payoff, read Chapters 23–25 in sequence and ask:

  • Does a transition have enough context? Notice whether the story makes clear why it moves from one scene or concern to another.
  • Does the exposition change your understanding? Explanations are useful when they sharpen the stakes or choices; they can feel like a pause if they only restate what is already clear.
  • Do the remaining chapters address what Chapter 23 raises? A setup may be deliberate if later chapters develop it. If a point is left without a meaningful consequence, readers may reasonably find the ending compressed.
  • Does the conclusion resolve the story’s priorities? Not every detail needs an answer, but the ending should give its central conflicts and character choices the space the story has led readers to expect.

These are reading criteria, not proof of authorial intent. The finished series gives readers the material to decide whether the last two installments make Chapter 23 feel like effective setup or like a sign of an overly compressed finish.

Where to read the completed story

VIZ’s official chapter listing provides the sequence and dates, while MANGA Plus identifies the series as completed. Reading the chapters together is the clearest way to evaluate the setup against its resolution. Reporting on the conclusion described a three-volume collected edition and scheduled the final volume for Japan in May 2026; that report does not establish current English print availability or retailer stock.

VIZ also published separate creator comments on March 8. Akutami, identified there as the manga’s mangaka, said: “Having color art published alongside Iwasaki-san was the greatest learning opportunity! See ya later!” The remark speaks to collaboration with Iwasaki, not to Chapter 23 or the quality of the ending.
