Iván Cornejo wanted *Mirada* to sound intimate and gentle, yet more uplifting than his earlier work: a record with the feeling of a nostalgic summer night. In interviews around its 2024 release, he described broadening the studio process, bringing more creative voices into the room, and pushing his sad sierreño sound in new directions.
What did Cornejo want *Mirada* to feel like?
Cornejo told GRAMMY.com, “I wanted the Mirada theme to feel like a nostalgic summer night.” He also hoped listeners might play the songs “on the beach, with friends, or alone in bed.” Those settings point to an album designed to feel personal without being confined to solitude.

Heartbreak remains central to the album, but Cornejo’s intended mood was not simply bleak. He described wanting intimacy and gentleness alongside a more uplifting sound and a touch of euphoria. He has explained his writing in broadly relatable terms: “I write about emotions that everyone goes through or has been through.” These are his aims for the music, rather than a claim that every listener will hear it the same way.
How does *Mirada* broaden his sound?
GRAMMY.com characterizes the album as a development of Cornejo’s sad sierreño approach and reports that he wanted to grow beyond his earlier records. The publication describes 12 solo songs, with no featured artists. Apple Music’s editorial places the release in Música Mexicana and notes its expanded instrumentation, romantic setbacks, and the cover “Quiero Dormir Cansado,” a song made famous by Mexican singer Emmanuel.

That cover is distinct from Cornejo’s original songs. In its interview, Vogue México describes winds, rhythms, and pop elements in tracks including “Herida Abierta” and “Atención.” Those are the publication’s descriptions of the arrangements, not a technical inventory supplied by Cornejo.

“The process for this new project was very different,” Cornejo told GRAMMY.com. He said he had previously worked more narrowly with producer Frank Rio; for *Mirada*, he invited additional creatives into the studio. He described constructive disagreements and different perspectives as part of how he learned and moved the work forward.
Vogue México’s interview offers a further detail about the division of work. Cornejo said, “Yo grabé todos los instrumentos, menos la batería, el tololoche y el trombón”—that he recorded all the instruments except drums, tololoche, and trombone. The piece describes Rio as bringing production perspectives while Cornejo brought guitar and melody ideas. Together, these accounts suggest a broader collaborative process without diminishing Cornejo’s hands-on role.
When was *Mirada* released?
GRAMMY.com reports that *Mirada* was released on July 18, 2024, through Zaragoza Records and Interscope Records, and calls it Cornejo’s major-label debut. The official artist archive also has a July 2, 2024 entry for *Mirada*; that is an archive-entry date, not the album’s release date.
Physical catalog listings are separate from that album release timing. Mills Record Company lists a 12-track CD under UPC 602468000488 with an August 23, 2024 release date. Record Store Day’s catalog lists CD and clear-vinyl formats under the same UPC. These listings document formats, not current stock or pricing. Apple Music’s *Mirada* album page provides a digital listening option.
