What is the song in the NBA Finals commercial?
It is “The Days” by Lil Wayne featuring Bono. ESPN debuted the promotion on June 5, 2025, the day of Game 1 of the Finals, with a montage featuring the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder. iHeart’s contemporaneous report said the song would also play during the game’s ABC broadcast. LilWayneHQ and Sporting News also identified it as ESPN’s Finals promotion song.
Why is “The Days” linked to Tha Carter VI?
iHeart connected “The Days” to Lil Wayne’s album Tha Carter VI and reported that the album was released June 6, 2025, one day after the promotion’s debut. Lil Wayne described the ESPN collaboration as an honor in a statement reproduced by iHeart: “Basketball’s been in my blood since day one so to team up with ESPN less than 24 hours before the drop of ‘Tha Carter VI’ for the NBA Finals is an incredible honor,”
Was “The Days” the NBA’s official Finals campaign song?
No. “The Days” was used in ESPN’s Game 1 promotion; the NBA announced a separate league campaign, “Unforgettable Awaits,” featuring Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.” The NBA’s May 19, 2025 campaign announcement said the creative would appear in broadcast, social and digital placements, as well as print, audio and out-of-home media. The two songs therefore belong to distinct campaigns, not competing versions of one promotion.
