Sydney Sweeney has described her natural hair as brunette with a little red—not blonde or simply redhead. Her familiar blonde looks have involved coloring for roles and public appearances.
How Sweeney describes her natural hair color
In a 2022 interview with Allure, Sweeney said her natural color is “brunette with a little bit of red.” She added that a reddish-brown look for National Anthem felt closer to her actual hair than her blonde styles: “I feel more Syd in this color than I do when I’m blonde.”
She gave a similar description to Vanity Fair in 2024, calling her natural shade a mixture of brunette with “a little bit of a red tint to it.” The red is a subtle nuance in the brunette base, not her description of an all-over redhead shade.
Why she is often seen as blonde
Blonde is a prominent part of Sweeney’s on-screen image, but it is not the natural color she has identified. In the 2024 Vanity Fair interview, she said the blonde for Euphoria required frequent touch-ups and damaged her hair. She also distinguished between projects: “Immaculate is my natural hair color, then for Anyone But You, I added a little bit of highlights to it.”
In a 2023 ELLE interview, she also called herself a natural brunette and discussed returning to brunette after extensive bleaching.

“Natural hair color” describes the underlying shade Sweeney has identified, not every color she wears in public. A Vogue report dated October 25, 2025 described a recent transformation from “suede blonde” to “icy blonde.” That dated description concerns a styled, bleached look; it does not alter her account of her natural brunette color with a red tint.
The interviews do not establish a precise salon color code or technical shade level. The clearest answer is Sweeney’s own: brunette with a little red.
