In a December 5, 2024, monetization developer diary, the Marvel Rivals development team said: “As you know, Marvel Rivals is free to download and heroes, maps, and other gameplay elements are completely free.” The post described optional cosmetic purchases and a Luxury Battle Pass. Those are launch-era details; check the in-game shop and current official notices for present prices and offers.

What platforms is Marvel Rivals on?
The official launch announcement listed Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic Games Store, and the official Marvel Rivals website. The release FAQ says players can play together when they are on the same server. Platform features, server arrangements, and account requirements can change, so verify current details through the game’s official channels before choosing where to play.
Is Marvel Rivals like Overwatch?
At a high level, yes: both fit the team-based hero-shooter category. That shorthand points to a format in which players choose characters with distinct abilities and work together in PvP matches. For a meaningful comparison, look at the specific features that matter to you: viewpoint and combat feel, team size and roles, hero abilities, platform and cross-play support, monetization, and the pace of updates. These details can differ and may change as either live-service game is updated.
How large was the launch roster?
NetEase Games reported 33 heroes for Season 0 in its December 6, 2024, Season 0 launch announcement. That is a launch-era figure, not a current roster count. The roster and other live-service details may have changed since then.
