Saturday Night Live did not end after its 50th season. The show made a real cast change before season 51, its corporate owner NBCUniversal reports strong audience numbers, and NBC has announced that season 52 premieres September 26, 2026. What the evidence does not show is any ending, any change in executive producer Lorne Michaels’s role, or a departure that has not been confirmed by the performer or NBC.
What changed in the cast before season 51
The turnover is the most visible change since the anniversary season. It is a reset of the featured players, not a replacement of the whole ensemble.

- New featured players announced by NBC: Ben Marshall, who was already a writer on the show, plus newcomers Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska.
- Departures confirmed: Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, Michael Longfellow, and Ego Nwodim, according to AP’s reporting.
- Not confirmed: AP reported that a departure for Heidi Gardner had been reported, but at the time of its report neither Gardner nor NBC had publicly confirmed it. Treat her status as unverified.
Ego Nwodim’s exit
Nwodim announced she was leaving after seven seasons. As AP reported her Instagram post, she wrote: “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight.” That is her own characterization of the moment. The sources reviewed do not add any further explanation of why she left, and it would be unfair to read more into the line than she said.
Who is on the season 52 cast list
Peacock’s current cast listing for season 52 includes Saidah Belo-Osagie, Grace Reiter, and Jane Wickline alongside returning performers. A cast listing is a snapshot. It does not show each performer’s contract status or prior role history, so it cannot tell you who is a regular, who is a featured player, or who has been added since the listing was compiled.
Is the show continuing into season 52?
Yes, according to the schedule NBC has published. NBC announced that season 52 would premiere September 26, 2026, on NBC and on Peacock.
The September announcement named Jalen Brunson and KATSEYE for the premiere. It also listed upcoming host and musical guest pairings:

What the audience numbers say
All of the figures below come from NBCUniversal’s own season 51 reporting. They are company-reported figures, not independent measurements.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Season 51 ranked first among broadcast comedies in the 18–49 demographic and second among all broadcast entertainment series in that demographic.
- This was SNL’s seventh consecutive season at the top of the broadcast comedies in the 18–49 demographic.
- Total viewers were up 6% compared with season 49 and up 5% compared with season 48.
- Season 51 generated 8.2 billion video views across social and digital platforms, up 98% from 4.2 billion year over year.
- The December 20 episode, hosted by Ariana Grande with Cher as musical guest, drew 10.1 million viewers across platforms.
The growth comparisons run against seasons 48 and 49, not against the anniversary season. Do not read them as proof that season 51 outdrew season 50. The company’s release does not make that comparison, and the figures do not support it.
Lorne Michaels and the show’s leadership
Peacock identifies Lorne Michaels as executive producer. The sources reviewed do not establish any change in his role or any succession plan. There is no evidence in them that the anniversary season marked his exit, so do not present it that way.

Where to watch
- Live broadcast: NBC carries the show live on its broadcast network.
- Streaming: Peacock streams SNL. Subscription pricing and plan availability change, so check Peacock’s service page before you subscribe.
- Archive: Universal Pictures At Home sells the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Collection: Seasons One–Five on DVD. It is a real product, but it covers the show’s early seasons. It is not a retrospective of season 50 and says nothing about the current cast.
If you want current episodes, the choice is between live viewing on NBC and on-demand viewing on Peacock. If you want older seasons, the DVD set is one physical option; for streamed archives, check Peacock’s current catalog.
Official SNL merchandise is also sold, but it is not a way to watch the show.
