What is Halsey’s “The End” about?
“The End” is a personal song that introduced the themes and emotional tone of Halsey’s fifth-album era. When she announced it, she framed the track alongside a candid message: “long story short, i’m Lucky to be alive. short story long, i wrote an album. it begins with The End. out now.” That wording was reproduced in announcements by BMG and Sony Music Canada.

The Associated Press described the recording as an acoustic guitar ballad. That is a contemporaneous description of its sound, rather than a formal genre classification. In its June 4, 2024 report, the AP said a diagnosis was not immediately clear at the time. The report does not establish a diagnosis, and the song should not be treated as medical confirmation.
How “The End” connects to The Great Impersonator
At the time of its June 2024 announcement, “The End” was presented as the first single from a forthcoming, then-untitled fifth album. The album was subsequently named The Great Impersonator and released on October 25, 2024. Sony Music Canada identifies “The End” among the releases that previewed the album.
