Gwen Stefani’s natural hair color is brown. Her longtime stylist, Danilo Dixon, described her hair as wavy brown and said the brunette shade created for the “Cool” video matched her natural color, perhaps a little darker.
Is Gwen Stefani a natural brunette?
Yes. In a 2017 interview account, Stefani’s longtime stylist Danilo Dixon described her as having “wavy brown hair.” He said the brunette shade used for the “Cool” video was her natural shade, “maybe a little darker.” Allure reported Dixon’s comments from his interview with Refinery29.

Why do old photos show different shades of brown?
The brown in Stefani’s throwback photos does not look identical in every image. A 2020 Allure report described an early-1990s photo as showing pale brown hair, possibly bronde, with hints of blonde highlights. A separate family photo showed a richer brown. These are descriptions of particular photographs, not evidence of a different underlying natural color.
What did her “Cool” video hair look like?
Dixon said the brunette look created for the video was intended to reflect Stefani’s natural shade, while allowing that it might have been slightly darker. It is a useful comparison, but not a standardized color measurement: the sources do not give a technical color level or shade code.
