The official title is Security Breach, and the sources checked do not establish a numbered ordinal for it.
Why the number is not an official title
Fans often attach numbers to long-running horror series, and the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise has several entries, so a numeral is easy to assume. Nintendo’s US Switch listing and a DiGRA conference paper both use the full name Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach. Neither source calls it “FNAF 8.” If you see the number in a search result or a video title, read it as the audience’s shorthand for this game, not as a label chosen by the publisher.
What the game is about
The game follows Gregory, a boy who is trapped overnight inside Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex. Nintendo’s description focuses on three things:
- Survival and evasion: Gregory has to avoid animatronics that pursue him through the building.
- Exploration: The Pizzaplex is a large setting to move through, not a single room.
- Security cameras and hiding places: Monitoring the cameras and using hiding spots are the main tools for staying out of the animatronics’ way.
This is a video game. It is not a documentary, and it is not based on a real event.

Release dates, and what each one refers to
Three dates appear in the sources, and they measure different things. Keep them separate:

The April 19, 2023 date belongs to the Switch digital listing. It should not be read as the date the game first came out.

Ruin: the story add-on
Ruin is free story DLC for Security Breach. The Epic Games Store listing says it is included with purchase of the base game on Epic. That statement covers Epic only. Other storefronts may handle the add-on differently, so check the store page you are buying from before you assume Ruin is included.

- Confirm whether the edition is digital or physical.
- Look for Ruin in the included content or as a separate purchase.
