Dynamic Duo is an upcoming DC feature about Dick Grayson and Jason Todd that pairs a reimagined Robin story with a reported blend of computer animation, models and large-scale puppetry. Calling it “a risk Marvel won’t take” is an opinion about the project’s unusual approach—not an established fact about Marvel’s strategy. The film has not been released, so its creative or commercial success cannot yet be judged.
What is Dynamic Duo about?
The film centers on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, both of whom have been Robin in DC stories. Reporting on the premise presented at Annecy in June 2026 describes them as street kids who call themselves the Dynamic Duo before their lives diverge: Dick moves toward working with Batman, while Jason joins the Red Hood gang. This is an announced premise, not a full synopsis of a finished film. Nerdist’s report describes the story as a departure from the characters’ familiar comic origins.
How does the puppet animation work?
The production is described as a hybrid of computer animation, models and large-scale puppetry—not as a feature made exclusively with practical puppets or exclusively with computer animation. James Gunn’s reported description was “a mix of animation, puppetry, and CGI.” TheWrap’s coverage of footage shown at Annecy reports that director Arthur Mintz discussed a test shot in which Jason looks into the reflective Red Hood helmet and “he sees himself.” That remark refers to the test shot; it is not a summary of the film’s plot.
Is Dynamic Duo part of the DCU?
According to GamesRadar’s report, Gunn answered “Nope” when asked whether the movie was being rewritten to become part of the DCU. The same report says there is no indication that it connects to Matt Reeves’ Batman universe. Those statements establish what has been reported about continuity, not further details about the film’s place in either franchise.

When does Dynamic Duo come out?
GamesRadar reported in October 2026 that the scheduled release date had moved from June 30, 2028, to September 22, 2028. That is a reported date, not a guarantee; release calendars can change.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it fair to say this is a risk Marvel won’t take?
The phrase is BGR columnist Jacob Siegal’s editorial framing. The case for calling the project unusual is its combination of puppetry, models and computer animation, alongside a story focused on two Robins. That supports describing Dynamic Duo as a distinctive production experiment; it does not prove that Marvel avoids comparable risks. The available reporting supplies no measurable basis for judging the comparison, and an unreleased film cannot yet be evaluated for execution, audience response or commercial performance. BGR’s article makes the comparison as commentary, rather than establishing a fact about Marvel’s strategy.
