An iTunes digital booklet is a downloadable companion to a qualifying music album, usually an unwrapped PDF containing some combination of lyrics, liner notes, credits, photographs, artwork and acknowledgments. It is album packaging in digital form—not an ebook, audiobook, separate music release or the same thing as an iTunes LP.
What a digital booklet contains
The exact contents depend on the album and edition. A booklet may include:
- Lyrics and translations
- Liner notes or artist and producer commentary
- Songwriting, publishing, musician and recording credits
- Album photography, cover artwork and design credits
- Thank-you notes and other release information
Apple identifies the relevant album asset as a PDFBooklet. Apple’s music-delivery specification also treats the booklet as a separate component of an album package, with its own title and PDF file: Apple Music Specification.
Is the booklet included with the music?
Only releases that include a booklet supply one. Check the exact album edition in the iTunes Store for the words “Digital Booklet” before buying. Deluxe, special and digital editions are more likely to include one, but availability varies by title, country and territory.

The package specification shows the booklet alongside the album tracks, so it is normally an extra asset supplied with a qualifying album purchase rather than an item sold independently. Older Apple package documentation and current delivery specifications commonly associate it with the full-album package; do not assume that buying one song includes the album’s booklet.
A purchase and an Apple Music subscription are different cases. Streaming or adding an album to an Apple Music library should not be treated as a guaranteed way to obtain a permanently downloadable PDF. Verify the specific release and account type if the booklet matters to you.

How to download and open a booklet on a Mac
- Open the Apple Music app.
- In the menu bar, choose Account, then Purchased. If relevant, choose Family Purchases and select the purchaser.
- Find the album you bought and select the album or its booklet-related entry.
- Click the download button. After the PDF asset is downloaded, open it from the booklet item or with your normal PDF viewer.
The Mac must be authorized with the Apple Account used for the purchase. Apple’s current redownload guidance is at Apple Support. Menu labels can vary by macOS version and region.
How to download it on Windows
Apple Music for Windows
- Open the Apple Music app.
- Click the account name at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Purchased.
- Select the purchaser or family member if prompted.
- Locate the album and download the album or associated booklet item.
iTunes for Windows
- Open iTunes and choose Account > Purchased.
- Choose Music from the media selector in the upper-left corner.
- Find the album and click its download button.
Use the Apple Account that bought the album and authorize the computer if requested. Apple’s Windows instructions are at Apple Support. Apple is moving Windows users toward separate Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices apps, but iTunes remains relevant on some installations.

Can you view it on an iPhone or iPad?
Apple’s mobile instructions focus on redownloading purchased music rather than providing a dedicated booklet-viewing screen. On an iPhone, open the iTunes Store app, tap More > Purchased > Music, select the artist or album, and tap the download button. iPad paths can vary by software version. See Apple’s redownload instructions.
Because the booklet is a PDF asset, it may not appear like a playable track in the Music app. If it is not visible on the device, download the purchase on a Mac or Windows PC and open the PDF there.

Apple’s developer documentation lists these as different media types: PDF booklet and digital booklet. Apple’s delivery documentation says an album can include a digital booklet or an Apple Music LP file, not both: Apple Music LP specification.

- Wrong account: You are signed in with an Apple Account other than the one that made the purchase.
- Authorization problem: The computer has not been authorized for that account.
- Already downloaded: The item is in the library, so no new download button appears.
- Hidden purchase: The purchase is hidden in the account’s purchase history.
- Edition mismatch: The version you bought does not include a booklet, even if another edition does.
- Region or rights change: The release is unavailable in your current country or has been withdrawn.
- Mobile presentation: The PDF is present but not exposed clearly in the iPhone or iPad music interface.
Check the account, authorization, hidden purchases and existing library items using Apple’s Mac or Windows guidance. Apple also warns that purchased content can become unavailable if rights change or the item is removed from the service; see availability information.

Should you back up the PDF?
Yes. Download the booklet after buying the album and keep a backup on a computer or other storage you control. Apple generally supports redownloading purchases, but it cannot guarantee future access to content that is removed from Apple Media Services. The PDF is normally unwrapped, but that does not permit uploading, redistributing or republishing copyrighted lyrics, photographs, artwork or liner notes.
