On Queer Eye in 2019, Antoni Porowski told camp supervisor Joey Greene, “I have a very intimate relationship with addiction.” Porowski later said he could relate to Greene’s struggles with alcohol in his early 20s, but he did not identify his own specific addiction. The published accounts also do not establish a diagnosis or his current recovery status.
What Antoni said on Queer Eye
Porowski made the remark while speaking with Greene, who described drinking heavily and the serious problems it had caused. Porowski responded, “I have a very intimate relationship with addiction.” The Chicago Sun-Times recounted the exchange in its 2019 account of the episode; Refinery29 also quoted the conversation in its episode recap.
Porowski connected food with comfort and positivity during a difficult period. In the episode, he said, “When my life was a complete mess, when I was trying to come out of it, food was always a way where I kind of made myself feel better,” as quoted by Refinery29.
What he said about relating to alcohol struggles
In a 2019 interview, Porowski said Greene’s experience with alcohol was something he could relate to “in a really intimate way” in his early 20s, when he was trying to figure himself out. That comment describes empathy and a period in his life; it does not say that Porowski’s own addiction involved alcohol. The Chicago Sun-Times interview also quoted him describing his teens and 20s as rough and saying, “I like to leave it at that.”

What the public accounts do not establish
- They do not identify Porowski’s specific addiction or say what behavior or substance was involved.
- They do not establish a clinical diagnosis or report his current recovery status.
- His ability to relate to Greene’s drinking is not evidence that Porowski had the same experience.
The available accounts are reports and recaps of comments made in 2019, not a complete transcript or recording. They support what Porowski said at that time, but not conclusions about details he did not disclose.
