That shift gives the ending its emotional weight. Jinx has spent much of her life living with what happened after choices made under pressure and with consequences she could not undo. This time, she acts deliberately. Overton described the moment with Vi as a culmination of Jinx’s arc and a way for her to “reclaim that final moment.” The choice does not erase the accident, the damage, or the decisions that came afterward. It changes Jinx’s relationship to the pattern by making her an active participant in what comes next.
This is why the meaning of the finale does not depend entirely on a definite answer about survival. If Jinx escaped, the ending suggests that her agency includes choosing a future beyond the immediate conflict.
