On March 10, 2025, NYPD officers responded to a welfare check at Wendy Williams’s assisted living facility in Midtown Manhattan. Emergency medical services took her by ambulance to Mount Sinai West for evaluation. ABC reported that Williams was calm, unrestrained and able to get into the ambulance herself; the incident was not reported as an arrest or forced removal.
What happened on March 10, 2025?
Police responded to Williams’s assisted living facility after the fire department was called for a wellness check. ABC reported that two NYPD officers and a sergeant went to the facility following a 911 call about a woman in distress. Williams was transported by ambulance to Mount Sinai West for evaluation. ABC News’ report on the response described the call as a standard call for service, with no ongoing police investigation.
The Los Angeles Times reported that police confirmed officers responded to a welfare check at the facility’s address in the 500 block of West 35th Street. The police account, quoted by the Times, said: “EMS responded and transported a 60-year-old female to an area hospital for evaluation.” The Los Angeles Times report characterized the destination as a hospital, while ABC identified it as Mount Sinai West.
Was Wendy Williams arrested or forcibly removed?
No. The available contemporaneous reporting describes a welfare check and ambulance transport, not an arrest. ABC reported Williams was calm, was not restrained and got into the ambulance herself. Calling the event a “removal” without that context can give a misleading impression of what happened.

What did Williams say about going to the hospital?
In a March 14, 2025 interview on The View, Williams said, “I just needed a breath of fresh air. I needed to see the doctors.” She said she had blood drawn to check her thyroid and chose to seek an independent evaluation of her capacity. Those are Williams’s descriptions of her reasons and experience; they are not findings from a publicly released medical record. ABC’s account of the interview includes her remarks.
How did the hospital visit relate to her guardianship?
ABC reported that Williams had been under court-ordered guardianship since 2022. In 2024, Williams and her medical team publicly disclosed that she had been diagnosed in 2023 with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Williams disputed claims that she was incapacitated. Her guardian’s attorney said the guardianship followed a judicial finding of legal incapacity. These are competing public positions; the reporting does not establish an independent conclusion about Williams’s capacity. ABC News Australia’s report describes the broader dispute and the publicly disclosed diagnoses.

What was reported about her later status?
A July 2026 TMZ report about a separate lawsuit concerning the documentary Where Is Wendy Williams? said Williams was living in an assisted living facility while efforts to end her guardianship continued. That report does not settle the guardianship dispute or establish the latest court ruling. TMZ’s July 2026 report is the later status account cited here; it should not be read as confirmation that the guardianship ended or that a final ruling was made.
