Kim Kardashian said she thought the Apollo Moon landings were fake after citing a Buzz Aldrin clip. Sean Duffy, then NASA’s interim administrator, publicly answered that the United States had landed on the Moon six times. The “horrified” reaction in the headline is a characterization, not a quoted description from NASA.
What did Kim Kardashian say, and how did NASA respond?
In an episode of The Kardashians, Kardashian said, “I think it was fake,” while discussing clips of Apollo astronaut Buzz Aldrin, according to Futurism’s Nov. 2, 2025 report. Duffy replied publicly: “Yes, we’ve been to the Moon before… six times!” Futurism also quoted him saying, “We won the last space race, and we will win this one too.”
This was a public exchange about a claim, not a new NASA finding about Apollo. The historical record summarized in the report is that Apollo made six crewed lunar landings from 1969 through 1972, and 12 astronauts walked on the Moon.
What did Buzz Aldrin mean by “It didn’t happen”?
The phrase came from a 2015 Oxford Union exchange. The question was, “What was the scariest moment of the journey?” Aldrin’s answer, as rendered in Paolo Attivissimo’s November 2025 contextual account, was: “Scariest? It didn’t happen. It could have been scary.”

In context, “it didn’t happen” referred to there being no single scariest moment—not to the journey or Moon landing failing to happen. Kardashian appears to have taken the short phrase as a denial of the landing; the preceding question changes its meaning.
What is the historical context?
Apollo’s six crewed lunar landings took place between 1969 and 1972. Across those missions, 12 astronauts reached and walked on the lunar surface. Those figures describe the Apollo program; Duffy’s response referenced that history while also expressing confidence about a future space race.

Futurism’s report mentioned Artemis plans, but its statements about future missions were made in November 2025. They should not be treated as a current Artemis schedule.

“Horrified” is the headline’s framing of Duffy’s public response. The reported quote itself affirms that the United States landed on the Moon; it does not describe NASA as issuing an institutional finding or formally characterizing its emotional reaction.
