Warren Glowatski was convicted of second-degree murder in 1999 and sentenced to life imprisonment, with parole eligibility after seven years. He received day parole in 2007 and full parole in 2010. Reporting also describes his participation in restorative justice work and meetings with Reena Virk’s parents. Reliable reporting reviewed here does not establish where he lives or what he does today.

Glowatski’s trial and sentence

Glowatski was 16 when Reena Virk was killed. In 1999, he was convicted of second-degree murder in adult criminal court and sentenced to life imprisonment, with parole eligibility after seven years, according to TIME’s account of the case. His age at the time of the killing should not be confused with his age at trial: The Independent reported he was 18 then.

At sentencing, Justice Malcolm Macauley told him, “Violence is not a recreational activity,” and said that “the death of Reena Virk and the shattered lives, including yours, are a testimony to that,” as quoted by The Independent.

Did Warren Glowatski get parole?

Yes. TIME reports that Glowatski received day parole in 2007 and full parole in 2010. These are reported parole milestones; they do not establish his current whereabouts or provide a detailed account of his life since release.

Restorative justice and Reena Virk’s parents

While incarcerated, Glowatski took part in restorative justice work and met with Virk’s parents, Suman and Manjit. TIME and The Independent report that they eventually forgave him or supported his parole. Their reported response is part of the public account of those meetings, not a resolution of the loss of their daughter.

Where is Warren Glowatski now?

The reliable reporting cited here does not verify Glowatski’s current location or establish a detailed account of his private life after full parole. Esquire reported in 2024 that he had not commented on Under the Bridge; that does not show where he lives or what he is doing. Claims about a present-day job, residence, relationship, or public profile should therefore be treated cautiously unless supported by newer, attributable reporting.

How the Hulu series relates to the real case

Hulu’s Under the Bridge is based on Rebecca Godfrey’s 2005 nonfiction book, Under the Bridge. The series dramatizes the case, so its scenes and character portrayals should not automatically be read as historical fact. TIME notes that the real Godfrey did not assist the police investigation in the way shown onscreen, and that the series includes a fictional composite investigator. Readers seeking the book-length account can start with TIME’s discussion of the book and adaptation.
