After his Season 9 episode, Thederick Barnes returned in My 600-Lb Life: Where Are They Now? TLC says he lost enough weight for doctors to remove a large lymphedema mass from his leg. That was not weight-loss surgery, and the available episode listings do not confirm that he later had bariatric surgery. The latest public-status update located by Parade was a September 2024 birthday post, discussed in its February 26, 2025 recap; Barnes’s current health and weight are not established by that report.

What happened after his Season 9 episode?

Barnes’s follow-up, “Thederick and Lindsey,” revisited his progress after his original appearance. TLC’s episode listing says he lost enough weight to have a large lymphedema mass on his leg removed. Apple TV’s listing for the follow-up frames the next question as whether he would pursue weight-loss surgery after the removal. Neither listing establishes that he underwent that surgery.

The listings identify the follow-up as Season 10, Episode 2, though catalog episode numbers and release dates can vary by service or region. Apple TV dates its catalog entry February 21, 2025.

What was reported during his original episode?

Disney+ lists Barnes’s original appearance as Season 9, Episode 2, “Thederick’s Story.” Its episode description says he had become housebound from eating and went outside only to greet the ice cream man.

Parade’s February 26, 2025 recap reports the episode-era figures as 740 pounds when viewers first met him, 692 pounds at a three-month follow-up, and 615 pounds at a five-month appointment. These are historical weights reported in Parade’s recap, not current measurements.

Parade also reports that, after Dr. Now approved Barnes for weight-loss surgery, further testing found cardiomyopathy and the procedure did not go ahead at that point. The reported next step was to lose 50 more pounds and repeat testing. Parade reproduces Dr. Now’s explanation: “He’s in some degree of congestive heart failure.” That is his statement as quoted by Parade, not an independent assessment of Barnes’s present health.

What is known about Barnes’s more recent public updates?

In its February 26, 2025 recap, Parade said the latest public update it had found was a September 2024 birthday post on Barnes’s Facebook account. The outlet quoted its caption: “Like start off saying thank the lord for waking me up this morning and see another chapter in my life Big 37 Big Virgo SEASON”. Parade said it had not found recent weight-loss details in his social-media updates.

This gives a dated limit to what that report could establish; it does not verify Barnes’s health, treatment, location, or weight today.

Why the leg-mass removal does not confirm weight-loss surgery

The two procedures are distinct. The TLC summary describes removal of a large lymphedema mass after Barnes lost weight. The Apple TV summary presents weight-loss surgery as a question the follow-up addresses, rather than a confirmed outcome. Without a source confirming that procedure, it is more accurate to say the follow-up reported the mass removal and leave bariatric surgery unconfirmed.
