The NFT auction of the “David After Dentist” video took place in May 2021, when David DeVore Jr. was 20 and studying computer science at the University of Florida. His family said they planned to use the proceeds to help pay college tuition for David and his brother. The word “now” in the original headline referred to that 2021 report—not to a confirmed account of his present enrollment.
Why the video became famous
In the viral clip, young David DeVore asks, “Is this real life?” after a dentist visit. By May 2021, Gizmodo reported that the video had received more than 140 million views. That is a historical count from the article’s publication, not a current view total. Gizmodo’s May 6, 2021 report covered the family’s decision to auction the video as an NFT.
What the 2021 NFT auction was for
The DeVore family put the video up for sale as a non-fungible token (NFT), a blockchain-based digital token associated with a particular asset. They said the proceeds would help pay tuition for David and his brother. The coverage described a family fundraising effort, not an ongoing listing or a current way to buy the video.
Contemporary reports do not agree on the sale’s dollar value. Hypebeast reported a final price of 3.30 ETH, which it valued at US$11,768 at the time. Gizmodo reported a figure of more than US$13,500. These are attributed media reports; no independently reviewed transaction record establishes a definitive dollar amount or the family’s net proceeds.

What was known about David’s college plans
In 2019, the University of Florida Alumni Association wrote that DeVore planned to study computer science and had been admitted to the Innovation Academy’s spring 2020 freshman class. In May 2021, Gizmodo described him as 20 and studying computer science at UF. Those publications establish a dated account of his plans and status then, but do not establish whether he remains enrolled today.
What later reports say—and what they do not confirm
A 20minutos article surfaced in search reporting that DeVore said in March 2026 he had moved to Atlanta, worked remotely, and started a computer science master’s program at Georgia Tech. This is a secondary report; its exact publication date and the underlying interview were not independently established. It should therefore be treated as a reported update rather than a verified, comprehensive account of his current education or work.

How David’s father viewed the NFT moment
Gizmodo reproduced a remark from David DeVore Sr. attributed to an interview with The Verge: “NFTs are like the wild west right now, it’s like back when we went viral and social media was in its infancy.” That was his comparison of the NFT market in the 2021 context, not a current assessment.
