The fan who threw a beer bottle into the ring during Friday Night SmackDown on May 9, 2025, was escorted out of the Nutter Center by security. Reports published immediately afterward did not establish whether he faced charges or was barred from future WWE events.
What happened during the SmackDown broadcast?
During the show’s closing segment at the Nutter Center in Ohio, ring announcer Mark Nash was introducing John Cena when a fan threw an empty beer bottle into the ring. Bleacher Report said the bottle bounced off the canvas and hit Cena on the kneepad; WrestleTalk described it as landing at Cena’s feet. The accounts differ on its precise path.
Cena stopped the introduction, picked up the bottle and threw it away from the ring, then indicated Nash could continue. Security quickly escorted the fan out of the venue, according to Bleacher Report and Wrestleview.
Was the incident planned?
WrestleTalk, citing PWInsider, reported that the bottle throw was not planned and that Cena’s and Nash’s responses were improvised. That is attributed reporting, not an official WWE statement.
