After Disturbed’s March 8, 2025, concert at Chicago’s United Center, arena staff found all six Chicago Bulls NBA championship banners damaged. The venue described the damage as minor and said it was exploring repairs with the Bulls. Contemporary reports linked the damage to concert pyrotechnics, but the United Center did not confirm a technical cause or assign responsibility.
What happened to the banners?
The United Center discovered the damage after the March 8 show, which also featured Three Days Grace and Sevendust. The venue removed the banners and said they would not be displayed for the remainder of the 2024–25 season. Its statement, reproduced by the Associated Press on March 14, 2025, said: “United Center is currently working with the Bulls to explore options to repair these banners,” and added that it anticipated they would be back the following season.
That was the venue’s expectation at the time, not confirmation that repairs were completed. The available reporting does not establish the banners’ present condition or display status.
Which Bulls banners were affected?
All six banners commemorating the Bulls’ NBA championships were affected. They represent titles won in these years:
- 1991
- 1992
- 1993
- 1996
- 1997
- 1998
Reports said nearby division and conference title banners, along with retired-number banners, were not damaged. The reports therefore concern the six championship banners, not every banner or display in the arena rafters.
What caused the damage?
Contemporary news reports connected the damage to heat from the concert’s pyrotechnics. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that heat was believed to have damaged the banners’ lower halves; a Chicago Tribune account reproduced by CBS Chicago described significant heat damage and warping.
The United Center’s quoted statement confirmed that damage was discovered after the concert, but it did not explain how the damage occurred. The reporting does not establish a specific device, engineering failure, or responsible party, so the pyrotechnic connection should be understood as contemporary reporting rather than a technical finding published by the venue.

What did the United Center say about repairs?
The venue said it was working with the Bulls to explore repair options and expected the banners to return the following season. That announcement was made in March 2025; the sources cited here do not confirm whether repairs were carried out or when the banners were displayed again.
